Our three solutions, DM Schedules, DM Connects and DM Pathways tackle the biggest three challenges in healthcare; 1️⃣ clinic capacity 2️⃣ patient engagement and 3️⃣ care pathways for multisystem users. We know that patients can forget their clinic appointments, often through no fault of their own. They might be unable to get time off work, be nervous about travelling to the appointment in busy rush hour traffic, or have caring commitments. DM Webex Connects uses AI to contact each patient through personalised communications, personalised channels and personalised reminder schedules. This ensures the patient attends, cancels or reschedules ahead of time, improving engagement and attendance rates. We're Benyamin Deldar and David Hanbury, co-founders of Deep Medical. Since 2017, we've been using AI to help us understand why patients miss their appointments in order to reduce NHS waiting lists and improve patient outcomes. And this year we’ve made huge progress. ➡️ Our pilot with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust resulted in 1910 additional patient clinic visits, with DNAs (Did Not Attends) reduced by 377 and 217 last-minute cancellation slots filled. ➡️ We’re working with Helpforce volunteers at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust to combine our AI with volunteer knowhow and compassion, to help more patients attend their appointments. ➡️ We partnered with the pioneers in NHS messaging: Healthcare Communications (Part of Cisco), representing a huge opportunity to deliver personalised and proactive patient communication that’s powered by our AI. ➡️ And our collaboration with Uber Health is helping to address the transport challenges that’s a significant barrier to patient attendance at hospital and clinical appointments. 🚀 So stay tuned - we’re only just getting started!

This is what reducing the NHS waiting list looks like in action.💪🏼 We’re working with Helpforce volunteers George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, and they’re already making a difference in reducing the NHS waiting list and improving patient access to care. Our AI predicts which patients might miss their appointments, allowing the volunteers to reach out and help them reschedule or offer additional support such as transport or someone to greet them at the hospital. The volunteer call sheets reveal the real-life struggles behind missed appointments. Many patients spoke of significant transport challenges in making it to their appointments on time. They might be living in areas with limited public transport, might not be able to afford to travel to hospital, or they might be dealing with health issues that make travelling at the scheduled time difficult. We’ve already seen impressive results from the pilot; interim data reveals a 28.8% reduction in Did Not Attends (DNAs). There’s still much to be done, but we’re proud of the progress so far.

Our partnerships with other tech companies make us stronger. We’re proud to join forces with the pioneers in NHS messaging: Healthcare Communications (Part of Cisco) as announced earlier this year. This partnership represents a huge opportunity to deliver personalised and proactive patient communication that’s powered by our AI. What does this look like in practice? Imagine an AI receptionist that not only schedules appointments but also anticipates patients’ needs. This receptionist knows which patients are at risk of missing their appointments - without accessing their medical records - and contacts them in the way that best suits them. Whether that’s a message outside working hours or an AI call for those who find text communication difficult. Our co-founder David Hanbury has described the partnership as the ‘integrated intel inside booking and engagement platforms.’ This solution alone is projected to relieve up to 150,000 appointments in a single NHS trust, translating into £28 million of reclaimed capacity for patient care.

👏🏼Some of the wonderful Helpforce volunteers that we’re working with at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. They’re already making a difference in reducing the NHS waiting list and improving patient access to care. We’re using AI to empower NHS volunteers in identifying and supporting patients who are at high risk of DNA (did not attend). Volunteer feedback on our software has been positive; it’s an ‘efficient way of making patient calls’, with the information ‘instantly accessible.’ Patients contacted have ‘really appreciated the calls.’ Our volunteers are embedded in their communities, well placed to understand - and act upon - the challenges that patients face in attending their appointments. Our goal? Shorter waiting lists, faster treatment times - and progress towards addressing the 12 million appointments that go missed or are cancelled at short notice, costing the NHS £2Bn each year.
