Brent Cross Plot 14 utilises MMC from Level 1 up, comprising of 200mm hollowcore planks spanning between load-bearing precast concrete sandwich panels (forming the façade) and internal precast concrete twin walls (forming the corridor walls). In areas where there are no corridor walls the hollowcore slabs are supported by trapezoidal steel Delta Beams which in turn span onto precast concrete columns. The sandwich panels have windows cast in the factory. #MMC

Curtins is assisting Royal Holloway, University of London, in developing a fully integrated Sustainable Travel & Transport Plan for their Egham campus, aimed at reducing the University’s Scope 3 carbon emissions over the coming years. As part of this process, Georgia Addy and I visited the campus yesterday to lead four focus group sessions with staff and students. These sessions focused on discussing current behaviours and barriers to sustainable travel, as well as identifying both hard and soft measures that could be introduced to encourage an uptake in these modes. It was an engaging day, and we greatly appreciated hearing the ideas and perspectives of those who attended. A big thanks to Mark Berry for accommodating us, as well as to everyone who joined us throughout the day. We had a fantastic time attending the #STEMCareersFair at the University of Leeds with George Marchant from Curtins. It was great to meet so many talented and enthusiastic students who were eager to learn more about our industrial and summer placements and our graduate schemes. We enjoyed talking with them about the application processes, sharing tips for their CVs and cover letters, and outlining what to expect during the interview process. We also discussed our 4-year Curtins Academy programme, which provides the foundation to become a Chartered Engineer. Additionally, we gave insights into the sectors we work in and what kind of jobs they would be involved in, including the day-to-day design tasks. Always a pleasure for us to connect with the next generation of innovators and help guide them toward exciting career opportunities. Bidder Street Data Centre Receives Green Light! 🚦 After three years of continuous involvement between our civils, structures, transport planning and geotechnical teams, we are delighted to see a successful planning outcome for a new Data Centre on Bidder Street in Newham. Designed by TTSP and Foster + Partners for sineQN and their development/funding partners Legal & General and Goldacre, the 80MW £750M investment project will be a catalyst for a new digital quarter in the Cody Triangle. Key to the planning approval was the project’s innovative approach to harnessing decarbonised residual heat to provide heat for up to 13,000 homes and businesses in the local area. 🏡 The highly sustainable development will also reuse or recycle 95% of waste, whilst sourcing low carbon recycled materials for construction. The project will provide significant improvements to the public realm, pedestrian and cycle routes, and help support delivery of the new Mayer Parry Bridge connecting Newham and Tower Hamlets. We look forward to progressing the scheme and East London regeneration alongside those mentioned plus Dunwoody LLP, Arup, RPS, and Rider Levett Bucknall RLB.
