⚖️ Tiamo Zanaj (left), 33, and Stephen Lloyd-Jones, 56, were jailed for more than 20 years each after prosecutors worked with police partners to successfully smash a multi-million pound drug smuggling chain. The pair used a modified ship, Well Plumbed, to transport hundreds of kilograms of cocaine across the English Channel and into the country. Paul Goddard, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “We will continue to work tirelessly to interrupt any and all activity by organised criminal gangs and ensure they face the consequences of their actions.” Read more ➡

About us
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent, and we make our decisions independently of the police and government. Our duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. The CPS: - Decides which cases should be prosecuted; - Determines the appropriate charges in more serious or complex cases, and advises the police during the early stages of investigations; - Prepares cases and presents them at court; and - Provides information, assistance and support to victims and prosecution witnesses. Prosecutors must be fair, objective and independent. When deciding whether to prosecute a criminal case, our lawyers must follow the Code for Crown Prosecutors. This means that to charge someone with a criminal offence, prosecutors must be satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, and that prosecuting is in the public interest. The CPS works closely with the police, courts, the Judiciary and other partners to deliver justice.

Crown Prosecution Service reposted this
Honoured to have been one of the keynote speakers again at this year’s 41st Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime at Jesus College. Very glad to be able to share my CPS experience of our Asset Recovery (criminal and civil), as well as our plea negotiations in complex fraud in the last year, and details of our first Deferred Prosecution Agreement. Some wonderful presentations from world experts. I hope the rest of the week is as successful.

A BMW driver who lost control of the vehicle due to high speed and poor road conditions, killing a man waiting in a layby, has been given a sentence of 5 years' imprisonment and a 5 years and 6 months' driving disqualification today at Cardiff Crown Court for causing death by dangerous driving. Ricky Perkins, 32, was driving on the A4063 Aberkenfig bypass just before 6am on 20 January 2021 when he aquaplaned whilst travelling at high speed. Millie Davies from the CPS said: “The CPS used data from the airbag along with eyewitness accounts to show that the defendant was driving too fast. “The combination of speed and poor weather conditions resulted in Perkins losing control of the vehicle, which had tragic consequences. “No one can undo the events of that morning, and although the case is now concluded, our thoughts will remain with Byron’s family and friends.” Read how we worked alongside South Wales Police to bring Ricky Perkins to justice ➡️ https://orlo.uk/KKzUr
