🍫A real life Willy Wonka experience… Crowdcube's sweet tooth came out as the team visited Knoops in Chelsea. We were so pleased to be invited for a chocolate-tasting session, and we certainly left with enhanced flavour palettes. We were guided on a chocolate journey by the founder,  Jens Knoop, of 21 flavours and nine different milks. There is a flavour to satisfy everyone's palete. Jens explained the journey of making the perfect chocolate drink, from visiting his suppliers around the globe to his very own  'Knoopology' technique for experimenting with flavours And it’s not just about great tasting chocolate. Knoops is built around some great values and their mission is to: 🍫 Focus on the next customer that walks through the door 🍫 Improve their experience and flavour  🍫 Take responsibility for their sustainability 🍫 Create a worry-free environment Knoops is joining the platform for its first raise this September as it looks to expand its stores in the UK and grow its international presence. We can vouch for the tastiness of its hot chocolate. It's the return of the crowdfunding OG and his new music venture—Disco🪩 By setting up Crowdcube our co-founder, Darren Westlake, revolutionised funding for growth businesses. To date our platform has helped over 1,300 businesses raise nearly £2 billion! His idea pioneered a new way for early stage companies to raise capital that created a global movement. Now Darren is turning the d̶e̶c̶k̶s̶ tables with his first raise for his new venture—a social media platform aiming to transform how we discover music. Think of it as an "Instagram for music" that makes finding your next favourite artist simple and fun. They’re launching today and have already hit the headlines with coverage in the likes of CityAM and Forbes: CityAM 💬“Our goal is to have our users build and invest in the platform. When an investor is also a user, they’re not just financially involved—they’re enthusiastic advocates who help spread the word.” Forbes 💬“Many of us have grown up sharing mix tapes of our favourite artists with friends, but that requires time and effort. This way, people don’t have to do anything – they’re continuously sharing what they like.” Disco is already overfunding (114% and counting!) Don’t miss the opportunity to join 100+ other investors. 🎶If that sounds like music to your ears learn more here: https://bit.ly/4gwjKH8 - - Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. “Community and family are everything....the Barra Family....the Family Distillery!" As part of our Success Story series, it was a pleasure to speak with cofounder Michael Morrison from Isle of Barra Distillers Ltd. From a founder trying to make a difference on a small island where employment opportunities were limited, to completing their first crowdfunding campaign and creating a Barra Family, this interview captures the power of community for a startup. We discussed: 🥃Importance of word of mouth 🥃Embracing community as a founder 🥃Crowdfunding experiences... 💬 What inspired you? To try and make a difference for the Island it was raised on. Employment opportunities were limited, most people had two jobs and I wanted to start something that not only offered enough income for a single job but also offered something new, something the Island hadn't seen before. We are currently the Islands first distillery, we are also the Islands first and only business that run a four-day working week, that is only a few of the high points. What was a challenge you faced when launching your startup? Convincing my wife it was a good idea..... But all jokes aside, it was learning to try and sell our product twice. That might sound daft but it's easy to sell something once, you launch and people buy for many reasons, to help support, they are interested, something new etc, but to get the customers to come back and buy again, that's the hardest part of business. What we did to overcome this was simple, stay true to what we looked to achieve, be authentic and stay relatable ...it worked. How has community played a part in your business's growth? Massive, in fact, we couldn't put into words how much they have played a key role. Your community and consumer base are your foundation. They have carried our story and shared it with their friends, family and loved ones. From there, our story grows, slowly but strongly and then the business grows, staff numbers grow and bit by bit the blocks are forming for a business that we can be proud of. What advice would you give to others looking to build a community around their product or service? It is the bedrock of any successful business, without your community to support you, that loyal consumer base that is there for you, and your business idea, it wouldn't be a success. Looking back on your crowdfunding experience, what advice would you offer to other founders who are considering this funding approach? Just do it!! Simple as that, we looked at the platform a number of times, we weren't sure if it fit our model and decided at the time it was best to leave it. Now maybe that was the right call, at the time, we don't know, but what we do know is our first experience on Crowdcube was incredible and it was a huge success. A well thought out process and people were there to assist at each step. A massive shout-out to Aoife O., our campaign manager, without her, our raise wouldn't have been the same!!
