CCI in the spotlight! 🎥 One of our community doctors and nurses were recently featured on a local Malian TV channel, Kéniéba Kunafoni, during one of our women’s group awareness and education sessions where they were discussing essential malaria prevention methods with local women and community health workers. Interventions such as these, coupled with other 'hard' interventions such as bed net distribution and assisting national health authorities with seasonal malaria prophylaxis, are essential in empowering the community to protect themselves during the rainy season. #malariaprevention #westafrica #malaria #communityhealth #UKMining #Socialresponsibility #CSR

  • The 1st-7th August marks #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, supported by the World Health Organization, UNICEF and many global health authorities. This year’s theme is ‘Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All’ Breastfeeding education and support are central to many of our community health initiatives here at CCI. We often conduct women’s groups where we promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of a child’s life, as per WHO recommendations, and the correct way to breastfeed to ensure sufficient breastmilk intake for adequate nutrition. The photo below shows one of these groups, conducted last year by one of our nurses on breastfeeding technique using clear visual aids. We also engage with and train community health workers so they can provide breastfeeding support for new mothers in the villages they cover, and in changing community perceptions that may be contrary to good practice, such as throwing away the first breastmilk after birth as it is sometimes believed to be harmful. #worldbreastfeedingweek #remotehealthcare #childhealth #childnutrition #westafrica

  • The rainy season is here, and so is an increased risk of malaria 🦟. This is especially true for our teams working in remote West African sites. Malaria can lead to serious health issues, as well as lost workdays for our client sites, so it is important to ensure that the workforces CCI are responsible for have the best information to protect themselves and their families. For this month’s health promotion activities, we combined education and awareness with ongoing malaria initiatives on each site, such as mosquito net distribution, indoor residual spraying in camps, and long sleeve policies in the evening. As well as local language podcasts and informative posters, our clinic teams delivered over 7200 participant hours of toolbox talks this month, including a talk delivered by one of our doctors in Hindi for a contractor team from India. #malariaprevention #mining #westafrica #remotehealthcare

  • Critical Care International has supported a number of clients in West Africa to implement community healthcare development strategies in the local areas in which they operate. Our approach begins with a thorough Community Health Needs Assessment, pinpointing critical health issues and evaluating existing community health services. This data-led foundation ensures interventions are tailored to address the community's specific challenges. We prioritize skill transfer and long-term sustainability, working to build trust with local communities and enhance your social licence to operate. The outcomes of these programmes provide demonstrable evidence of impact to external stakeholders, showcasing your commitment to the wellbeing of you impacted communities. In this instance, a Community Health Needs Assessment revealed a critical gap in newborn care training for nurses and midwives at a client's local community clinic. This finding became the cornerstone for a targeted program aimed at strengthening their skills and improving outcomes for small and sick newborns. • This month, our health promotion campaign tackled a vital topic for the rainy season: snakebites. With increased vegetation creating ideal hiding spots for snakes around our West African sites, we focused on prevention and effective response. Through engaging podcasts in multiple languages, informative posters, and interactive toolbox talks, we reached nearly 500 participants directly through the talks, and many more through podcast sharing and poster distribution. Recognizing snakebites as a threat to everyone, we particularly encouraged workers to share these resources with their families back home, ensuring this valuable information reaches beyond our client mine sites and into the wider community. #snakebite #snakebiteprevention #mining #WestAfrica
