  • Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay! This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is workplace mental health, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace to benefit your employees, your organisation and communities. All workers have the right to a safe and health work environment, and that environment can protect your mental health though providing a livelihood, a sense of confidence and achievement, inclusion in a community, and a structured routine. However, poor working environments such as experiencing discrimination and inequality, excessive workloads, and job insecurity, can be detrimental to our mental health. Globally, it is estimated that 12 billion working days are lost every year to depression and anxiety, so it is becoming increasingly important to protect and support mental health at work. The Mental Health Foundation has a fantastic guide on how you can support mental health at work. Visit their website to find out more! #mentalhealth #mentalhealthday #workplacementalhealth

  • September’s health promotion focus across CCI’s client sites was on #Mpox. This topic is particularly relevant given the recent upsurge in cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, leading to the World Health Organization declaring Mpox a public health emergency of international concern in August.   Since then, a number of other countries have reported cases. With mine sites often attracting a workforce from diverse regions, it's essential to be aware of outbreaks and recognize early symptoms to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as Mpox.   This month, we delivered over 9,677 participant hours of toolbox talks across all sites, and reached many more people through our local language podcasts and informative factsheets. #Mpox #healthpromotion #mining #Africa

  • The 28th September was #WorldRabiesDay, where we recognise the devastating impact this preventable disease has on communities worldwide. According to the WHO, rabies causes approximately 59,000 human deaths annually, with 95% of cases occurring in Africa and Asia. Dogs are the most common source of rabies transmission to humans. We can all take steps to prevent Rabies: ● Vaccinate your pets against Rabies ● Avoid interacting with wild animals ● Seek urgent medical attention within 24 hours if bitten or scratched by an animal. ● If you are travelling to a high risk area or remote area where medical care takes longer to access, vaccinate yourself beforehand. Take a look at our Rabies factsheet to find out more! #WorldRabiesDay #RabiesAwareness #PreventRabies #WHO

  • CCI on the news! 📽️ Last month, one of our site doctors, Dr Sollers Gadjingar NDIGTOL, presented the findings of our Community Health Assessment (CHA) that we recently conducted in the villages surrounding Kouroussa Gold Mine during the Kouroussa Prefecture’s Annual Health Meeting. 52 health centre chiefs were present, along with key NGOs and international organisations such as the World Health Organization. We are delighted with the positive response that we have received from the health authorities and local communities, who were instrumental to the success of this assessment. We look forward to continued collaboration with Kouroussa Gold Mines (Hummingbird Resources plc) and the Prefectural Health Directorate of Kouroussa in improving the health and wellbeing of the mine’s impacted communities.
