Every year we are amazed and humbled by the number of people who give their time to make Crisis at Christmas happen. None of it would be possible without the army of selfless volunteers who step up to give our guests the happiest Christmas possible, and help them start their journey out of homelessness. Already a few thousand people have signed up for shifts on our website but we still need more, especially people with specialist skills including drivers, physiotherapists, entertainers, hairdressers and barbers, eye care professionals, podiatrists and oral health professionals. We also need hotel volunteers able to do night shifts or help after Christmas until we finally finish in January. Those are just a few of the roles we need help to fill this year. There's a full list of all the ways you can help on our website. Find out more and sign up today: https://lnkd.in/etnzQN-w
About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Through our pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness and the solutions to it, we know what it will take to end it. Together with others who share our resolve, we bring our knowledge, experience and determination to campaign for the changes that will solve the homelessness crisis once and for all. We bring together a unique volunteer effort each Christmas, to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year, and offer a starting point out of homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

There are lots of practical ways to help Crisis at Christmas. We're often approached by people who want to donate useful gifts such as warm clothing, food or snacks for our Christmas guests. Gifts have ranged from a warm scarf to a ton of veg! So, our centres draw up lists of items that can help. For some centres it's easiest to just create a wishlist on Amazon so supporters can order them online and they can be delivered in one go. Others will be open for in-person deliveries. For example, our warehouse in Canning Town will be open for donations 2 – 8 December, from 10am – 4pm. Find out more about how you can donate gifts in kind: https://lnkd.in/eJTTvTp4 and we'll be adding in information for each area as it becomes available

This week's supporter stars are all the staff at Baker Ross Ltd⭐ Our supporters, Baker Ross, recently hosted a staff bake sale and raised £120.36 for Crisis! Chanelle from Baker Ross tells us more. "This year, here at Baker Ross. we're proudly celebrating 50 years in business, and as part of the celebrations, we're embarking on a special mission to complete 50 Good Deeds. "One of our valued customers inspired us to support people experiencing homelessness, so we decided to raise money for Crisis by hosting a company-wide bake sale. "We gathered our talented bakers, spread the word across our office and warehouse, and hosted a two-day event that brought everyone together. It was truly heartwarming to see so many of our staff contribute, whether by purchasing yummy homemade treats or simply donating to this important cause." Inspired? “I felt so much pressure and my life just spiralled out of control.” When Gaz came to Crisis, homelessness had worn him down physically and mentally. “I’ve always been a positive person and helped other people. Always had a caring nature but I had a tough childhood. “The first time I walked into Crisis, I felt like someone finally cared. It was the first time I wasn’t just surviving. Crisis helped me have a structure instead of going mad and being out on the street. I don’t know what I would have done without them. It’s not rocket science. If you haven’t got a roof over your head, it’s going to be difficult to progress in life.” Gaz, a previous Crisis member, now volunteers at Crisis at Christmas and last year wrote the foreword to the Crisis at Christmas magazine. “I’ve met some amazing people and getting involved with everything at Christmas with Crisis made my Christmas. The supporters and the donors, their money is going to good use. It’s changing people’s lives." This Christmas, we are expecting to welcome over 6,000 people like Gaz through our doors. This Christmas can be the beginning of a life beyond homelessness. Interested in volunteering for #CrisisAtChristmas but not sure what's involved? We're looking for all kinds of people. Yes, we need people who can do Christmas lunches but we also need good listeners. Companionship is an essential part of our Christmas. Helping people to reconnect with others and rebuild their confidence is an important step on their journey out of homelessness for good. Veteran volunteer Lydia explained how she spent one day over Christmas last year: "I spent a whole day last year with the sweetest lady. We met while she was queuing to get her eyes tested. We chatted over cake and a hot chocolate, we chatted some more while she got her hair cut and washed, we played bingo and ended our day with some arts and crafts. We both left each other feeling really happy to have met one another." Find out more: https://bit.ly/48n2Oix
