Copper were proud to sponsor the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the Institute of Economic Development’s annual conference yesterday. Congratulations to the Economic Development Team at Basildon Borough Council for winning the award – presented by our very own Simran Sarai – and to all the other nominees. With growth at the top of the UK's political agenda, the event was an excellent opportunity to hear first-hand how economic development teams are working to deliver positive impact for their communities. #IEDConf2024

Can the UK become a clean energy superpower by 2030? Well, it's possible. But not without serious investment, household and country-level sacrifices, no shortage of disruption and - most likely - several disputes. That's the top-line from National Energy System Operator's recent report on the UK's outlook for achieving this key Government ambition. Whilst this is enormously positive news, if the Government chooses to follow this path, it will accelerate the delivery of infrastructure to a level unseen in the post-war period. Through this, it is critical to bring the public on the journey with us - but how to broach this emotive issue? That's exactly the topic of our new report, Climate Pathways, which Senior Account Executive Peter Adams explores... Earlier today, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves delivered the Budget, The Labour Party’s first in power for 14 years. The Budget raised taxes by £40 billion, raising the tax burden to its highest level ever in an attempt to close the claimed £22 billion ‘black hole’ in the public finances and boost funding for public services. Of most interest to the energy and infrastructure sectors: ◾The Government confirmed sweeping changes to the Government’s fiscal rules, freeing up an estimated £100 billion to spend on investment in road, rail and green energy projects over five years. ◾£22 billion in funding was confirmed for two carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects (previously announced). ◾Other funding confirmed included 11 new green hydrogen projects across the UK, an additional £1 billion for the aerospace sector and £2 billion for the automotive sector. ◾HS2 has been confirmed as terminating at London Euston.
