In government, we took the difficult decisions to reduce inflation from 11.1% to the Bank of England’s target of 2.0% – paving the way for the first interest rate cut in four years. Today’s announcement of a rise in inflation shows how important it is that the new Labour government follows our plan and focuses on keeping inflation low - there is clearly more to be done to keep inflation down.

Disappointing that the Labour government’s first King’s Speech offers nothing for rural communities. In contrast, we: 🐏 Maintained the annual farming budget in England at an average of £2.4 billion. 🚜 Launched the biggest ever grants package for farm businesses. 👨🌾 Committed to increase the UK-wide agriculture budget by £1 billion over this parliament.

The world is more dangerous now than it has been at any time since the end of the Cold War. We urge the Government to commit to increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030.

The Government are inheriting an economy that is on an upwards trajectory. Labour trying to claim things are worse than expected won't wash with the public.

Today’s King Speech made it even clearer that Labour have nothing to offer British farmers.

Improving education is the closest thing to a silver bullet there is. There is no better economic policy, no better social policy and no better moral policy than a world-class education. That's why I'm really proud of what we've delivered since 2010 👇 🏫 90% of schools rated good or outstanding, up from 68% under Labour 📕 The 4th best primary school readers in the world 📈 Our secondary school children have risen from 27th to 11th in maths & 25th to 13th in reading 👨🏫 27,000 more teachers since 2010, and 59,600 more teaching assistants ⬆ Over 10,800 academies - 50% of state schools - up from around 200 under Labour 💷 The largest investment in our schools in history - at over £60bn per year next year 🚸 60,000 new special needs school places 🌐 4 out of the 10 top universities in the world ✅ Over 5.8 million apprenticeships ⚙ New high-quality technical qualifications - HTQs, T Levels, Skills Bootcamps 🧒 The largest expansion of childcare provision in our country's history And I've got a clear plan to go further. For the first time in our history, if I'm re-elected on Thursday, I will put technical education on an equal footing with academic education by reforming our post-16 qualification. And I will crack down on rip-off degrees that are neither value for money for students or the taxpayer. Instead, I'll grow apprenticeships by 100,000 every year. What's the other choice? Every time and everywhere Labour have had power, education standards have plummeted. Don't surrender your children's education to Keir Starmer.
