Powering a changing world

About us

Conrad Energy is a leading UK energy company. We’re powering the move towards renewables through innovation and technology. We generate power to support the National Grid when renewables can’t meet demand and we buy, sell and manage energy for businesses nationally. With a portfolio including gas, batteries, solar, wind and hydrogen, our 85 sites, operational or in construction, have a potential to generate 945MW of power, making us one of the leading flexible energy providers in the country. Optimised and operated using our market-leading software, iON+, we’re at the forefront of shaping a more efficient energy sector that is both reliable and sustainable. We’re proud to power a changing world, building a better future for us all.

We’re putting final preparations in place for Solar & Storage Live.  Solar & Storage Live describes itself as “the UK’s most forward-thinking, challenging and exciting renewable energy exhibition that celebrates the technologies at the forefront of the transition to a greener, smarter, more decentralised energy system.” It’s certainly an unmissable opportunity to meet with other key stakeholders within the energy value chain, especially the innovators and disruptors who come to showcase their technology and service solutions. On the Tuesday we will have our PPA team out in force, Wednesday we’ll be showcasing our technology platform iON+ and explaining how it gives our trading team a competitive edge, and on Thursday our focus will mostly be on-site generation. Bookable time slots with the team are already starting to fill up, so if you’d like to secure a fixed appointment time with any of the team, please use this link https://lnkd.in/esSdTHy4 The show takes place from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th at the NEC. #solarstorage2024 #solarstoragelive #energy

It‘s a year since our roof top solar scheme at RiversMeet Leisure Centre went live.   The system produced 225,500kWhs in its first year, which is almost exactly our initial prediction, even considering the less than wonderful summer we had!   Solar technology has developed so much that, even in our gloriously unpredictable English weather, it is a key part of the future of power generation and will be crucial to the UK’s energy transition. #rooftopsolar #solar #solarenergy #leisure

We are thrilled to announce that planning permission has been granted for our Shareshill Battery Energy Storage site – a 70MW site in Staffordshire. This project, our largest battery to date, will help us in providing cost-effective, flexible energy solutions to the grid, particularly during peak electricity periods or times of system stress. At full capacity, this project will meet the average electricity needs of 454,545 homes, assuming an average usage of 2,700 kWh per household per year. The Shareshill site will connect to the available grid capacity and play a crucial role in stabilizing the network by offering frequency services. As demand for clean electricity continues to grow, projects like this are essential in enhancing grid flexibility and supporting a more sustainable future. With a suitable and sensitive design, the project will have a minimal impact on the local area, including proposed tree planting and screening to enhance local ecology and deliver Biodiversity Net Gain. The area will be fully restored to its original condition at the end of the project’s operational life. #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #BatteryStorage #BESS #RenewableEnergy #GridStability #Energy #EnergyTransition

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been sharing the journey that our Siemens Energy equipment has taken from Germany to Suffolk. This is the first of two sites in the East of England we’re developing as part of the National Grid ESO’s Pathfinder 3 Stability Programme. This final video shows the equipment being expertly steered along the dusty path to its new home.   These units weigh more than 300 tonnes, and their size requires specialist trailers which have tractor units at both ends to enable manoeuvring around corners. With their length and width, precision steering is essential - which Allelys provided. Thanks to everyone involved in this complex delivery operation. Your contribution to this aspect of the UK’s energy transition has been vital.     #energytransition #pathfinder #energy #gridstability

The UK will shortly close its last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, ending over half a century of coal-powered electricity. This milestone represents a crucial shift toward cleaner, renewable energy sources, but it also underscores the growing need for flexible energy solutions.   The energy transition isn’t just about replacing one energy source with another; it's about managing a diverse, increasingly weather-dependent energy mix. With renewables like wind and solar now accounting for a substantial share of the UK’s electricity generation, the challenge lies in ensuring grid stability amid varying conditions. The final days of coal highlight the necessity for flexible, on-demand energy generation to complement renewables and maintain a secure and reliable power supply.   At Conrad Energy, we recognize that flexibility is more important than ever. As the UK moves towards its ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the role of flexible gas, energy storage, grid management, and innovative technologies like hydrogen will be pivotal. Our focus is on delivering agile, responsive energy solutions to support the grid when renewables fall short, and in turn ensuring a seamless, sustainable energy transition.   The closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar marks the end of an era, but it's also the beginning of a new chapter. By embracing flexibility, we can power the UK’s greener future with resilience and reliability.    #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #Flexibility #NetZero #Sustainability #FlexibleGeneration Image shows our Winchester battery site. Samuel Linney joined the Conrad Energy team in June as our new Development Manager. He comes to us with a background in solar sales and development.     Aside from wanting to be an airline pilot as a little boy, Sam says he has always seen himself working in renewables. He’s enjoying the variety of his job, with the balance of stakeholder management and learning new technologies across generation, storage and stability services as he establishes himself and grows with Conrad Energy.   Outside the office, he’s a keen hiker, reader and music lover.     Good to have you with us, Sam!    #ourteam #people #energy
