Important Update for Electrical Installation Professionals! 📣
The newly published IEC 60079-14:2024 standard brings several significant updates for those involved in the design, selection, installation, and initial inspection of electrical systems in explosive atmospheres.
Major changes include:
✅ The title now explicitly includes "Electrical installation design, selection and installation of equipment, including initial inspection" to cover all relevant areas.
✅ Terminology Change: "Installation of equipment" replaces "Erection" for more common usage.
✅ Major restructure of the content with specific sections covering design, selection, installation, and initial inspection
✅ Requirements for simple apparatus are now aligned with IEC 60079-11.
✅ New flowchart covering flameproof cable entry devices: Considers equipment groups, cable lengths, and enclosures with volumes ≤ 2,000 cm³.
✅ Annex Updates: The previous informative Annex E has been updated to a new normative Annex C covering pressure testing of cables into flameproof enclosures. The previous normative Annex C, tables for initial inspection, have been included in a new informative Annex O, allowing customised checklists for specific installations. A new initial inspection table covering the type of protection Ex “o” liquid immersion has also been introduced.
These updates and more, are crucial for all professionals working with electrical installations in explosive atmospheres.
We will be publishing a detailed paper on these changes soon.
