The team at the centre of the cross-Government Better Buildings programme, which is leading the charge to coordinate and implement improvements in the condition of the overall government estate, will deliver a useful and informative session on where we are, and where we need to be. Our buildings are designed to be state-of-the-art and able to adapt to the needs of the areas of they're in. September sees Government Property Month celebrate the importance of buildings and the NHS estate in providing space for health professionals to deliver care in line with the Government Strategy Update in Manchester. Over the month, we will be highlighting some of our fantastic properties and people who help us to deliver care closer to home, in high quality buildings, throughout areas of high health need.

August marks three years since Foleshill Health Centre opened to patients for GP services. CHP’s multi-award winning £3.3m Foleshill Health Centre is the first UK health centre to achieve #Passivhaus Classic certification – the leading international low-energy building standard. The entire build was completed in only 10 months, a 30% reduction in time compared to traditional methods. When NHS Trusts and ICS systems as a whole plan for better patient experience are they fully aware of these buildings capabilities that not only enhance patient experience enabling greater outcomes, but also create a greater and much improved staff experience which is key for recruitment and retention #High quality estate matters

It is great to see the positive impact that Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) are having on patients’ access to diagnostic tests as evidenced by national Healthwatch England research. Among the 22 they visited were Rossendale Primary Health Care Centre, Lancashire, and Eltham Community Hospital, London - both CHP buildings. Nationally, feedback from patients was overwhelmingly positive and 93% of people they spoke to had good experiences. Dr Katharine Halliday, President of The Royal College of Radiologists said in the report: “There are real benefits to patients with quicker, easier access through a ‘one stop shop’ leading to earlier diagnoses, better outcomes for patients and lives saved. “ We are proud to be part of this success, with 10 CDCs in our buildings delivering hundreds of thousands of additional diagnostic tests each year. Over the past 3 years, we at CHP have worked hard to continually create social value within our buildings, placing them at the heart of their communities. Each year has seen a year-on-year increase across our portfolio in the social value CHP have created. From health awareness days, community events, gardens, and artwork installations to accessible toilet seats and variation work including the creation of a dental school in Kenworthy to address the shortage of NHS Dentistry in North East London which generated £3.2m. Our staff have used volunteering days to clean beaches, help build community gardens, attend Christmas parties and sort clothing and articles for charities. Last year, we generated £51m social value, compared to £39m the year before. We’re incredibly proud that our buildings are core assets and community hubs and we look forward to continuing to help the populations we serve. Jeanette Leach has joined CHP as Regional Director – North West with over 20 years’ experience of senior leadership experience working across both Commissioner and Provider organisations in the NHS at local, regional and national level.   A significant part of her working career has been spent in Greater Manchester and the North West leading health and social care integration and transformation within the NHS. Jeanette has led large scale transformation and improvement programmes and boasts a wealth of experience working within the NHS.
