Wow another warm one at HWTrain station - thanks to the WhiffAway Group team and our smalll group of volunteers - beds weeded, wildflower meadow was cut and raked then over seeded with yellow rattle and a meadow mix. Pollinator friendly perennials planted & raised beds weeded too. Then we took down the buddleia to finish off. Looking forward to the next session on 16/10 12-2 all helpers welcome! #Community #Conservation #FeelGoodFactor

Enhancing Chilterns habitats through conservation, education & community engagement.
About us
Our vision is to inspire and enrich communities and enhance local environments. We work with communities to provide practical habitat management in Bucks and the wider Chilterns. We manage 12 nature reserves for Buckinghamshire Council and help a range of conservation and local authority partners with habitat management in their woodlands, chalk grassland, commons, ponds and chalk streams. To do this, we rely on the help of volunteers – people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds as well as community organisations, charities, social enterprises, schools, colleges and other partners. We offer a variety of education and training opportunities to individuals and organisations to help make a difference. With a particular focus on young people, we aim to help those either out of work, transitioning to work or still in full time education. We also offer work experience placements to students in Year 10 and 11. We also offer popular ‘Be a Ranger’ day team building sessions through to our corporate supporter or sponsorship packages, where businesses of all sizes can become involved with this important conservation work. ‘Be a Ranger’ team building sessions offer businesses the chance to make a real difference to the environment by working at one of the many fantastic nature reserves across The Chilterns. Join our expert rangers who have over 30 years’ experience in conservation and over five years expertise in running outdoor team building sessions. This is an opportunity not only to enjoy the Chilterns’ countryside and its fascinating wildlife but also a day of exercise, fresh air and for many, a life-enhancing experience. Businesses and their staff get the chance to be hands-on with a range of tasks and create homes for birds, butterflies and wildflowers. You can choose to help a specific site, habitat type or even a specific species, such as butterflies – let us know and we can make it happen.

Some of our volunteers and team have been working on the Chess with the Chiltern Chalk stream project this summer. Be great to get more people especially younger people Aspirin to careers in STEM ecology and other practical careers involved too. What a great way to gain habitat and systems knowledge, experience of surveying and practical work and another crucial element of career development - networking! #volunteer #careers #network #STEM

This is the kind of project we are really proud to deliver with our partners. A huge thanks to Matthew Herring-Rogers, Misbaah Akhtar & their colleagues for making it happen. We invite people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved and there is also a space for local businesses who want to contribute too. Nature and place are at the heart of this community project. We need to create & look after more spaces like this that inspire and lift where we live. Mission Accomplished!! What an impactful day with our good friends Origin Global - thanks Zoe Nolan for rallying the team. Together with some of our volunteers, we spent today looking after internationally important habitat - the river Wye in High Wycombe one of only 200 chalk streams in ….the world! We kept the main channel of the back stream clear of vegetation so conditions are ideal for fish to spawn in the clean gravels. We also spent some time at Funges Meadow Nature reserve where Dark Mullein grows. Did you know..it’s the only foodplant of a rare moth - can you spot the caterpillar of a Striped Lychnis??!! 🐛 Habitats enhanced ✅ Community Engaged ✅ People learned stuff about nature ✅

Delighted to hear this news - long term partnership working is key to tackling all the issues mentioned and more. Chalk Cherries Chairs has been an amazing foundation thanks to the the efforts of the partners involved and the staff team which we must build on. Fingers crossed we can land one of these projects for the Chilterns 👍🏻💚🤞🏻
Today we launch #LandscapeConnections - £150million funding to enhance and protect the UK’s world-class landscapes over the next 10 years. Excited? Proud? You betcha! Together with our amazing partners Origin Global, we have been shortlisted for the 2024 @CharityTimes Award for Corporate Community Local Involvement! We’ve worked together over the past 4 years to look after amazing spaces for biodiversity like Sands Bank Local Nature Reserve, plant trees and hedgerows in the Chilterns National Landscape and work in a number of schools with the kids to improve the school grounds. Just shows what can happen in our community when leaders like Victoria Brocklesby empower their teams Samantha Wright EnvDipNEBOSH & Zoe Nolan to make amazing things happen. Huge thanks to our Diana Crawcour for writing an inspiring application 🙏🏻👍🏻💚🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 #Community #Business #Partnership

🌿 Thrilled to Share! 🌿 I was selected to participate in an inspiring Wildlife and Conservation programme aimed at young people, where I gained invaluable practical experience in all weathers, enhancing my knowledge of land, conservation, and access management. During this programme, I learned about managing habitats, species identification, invasive species, wildlife surveys, and accessibility rules. Working effectively with different groups, I contributed to improving the environment while developing my people skills. This experience deepened my commitment to continuously build on my understanding of environmental and sustainability issues. I am proud to have been part of a programme that aligns with my passion for preserving our natural world.
