Our founder Liberty Venn had the incredible opportunity to attend a celebration at 10 Downing Street last week, marking 75 years of the Cheltenham Literature Festival—the world’s oldest literary festival! It was an inspiring day surrounded by amazing individuals. A key highlight was hearing Lisa Nandy speak passionately about protecting and nurturing the arts, especially for children and young people. It was also wonderful to hear from a number of young poets performing the work they'd written as part of their participation in The Scribbled Self, a unique writing for wellbeing resource that offers young people a creative outlet for their thoughts and feelings. Our heartfelt appreciation to Serco Leisure for hosting a family book drive across 46 leisure centres nationwide this month. Their initiative, now in its third year, invites families to donate pre-loved children's books in dedicated drop points in each centre. These books are then delivered to our three Hubs nationwide for sorting and onward gifting to children with fewer books of their own. This campaign is a highlight for us each year, and has already enabled us to gift thousands of beautiful pre-loved books to children unable to afford to buy their own. We can't wait to receive this year's donations and to do the same! We're so grateful to the staff and families at each centre whose efforts have made this project possible. Our vibrant new Pop Up Bookshop Kits have arrived! 🤩 Modelled here by some ASDA volunteers in Leeds, these resources will enable eligible schools to put on joyful gifting events that foster book buzz and engage everyone.
