BIG news for BIG cats! 🐅 Imagine coming face to face with a leopard or a tiger. Well that’s a reality for people living in parts of India 🇮🇳 In the past, some would react by shooting, attacking or poisoning them out of pure fear. But thanks to huge conservation efforts from the zoo, Wildlife Trust of India and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), big cats that wander into villages are now given safe passage and move on peacefully. Proof that that people and wildlife can thrive together with a little understanding 🌏 One zoo. Endless stories

Global leaders are coming together at #COP16 in Cali, Colombia, for critical talks that could help shape our planet’s future. As the first major biodiversity summit since the 2022 Kunming-Montreal GBF, now’s the time to move from targets to action! 🌍 #COP16 is an exciting opportunity to ramp up ecosystem restoration efforts around the world. Protecting and restoring habitats not only helps prevent biodiversity loss but also strengthens nature’s role in tackling climate change - conservation zoos like Chester Zoo play a huge part in this mission. We're already contributing toward global biodiversity goals and supporting the push to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. By acting together, we can meet these goals and create a future where nature survives and thrives. 🌿 In two weeks time, global leaders will also meet again at #COP29 in Azerbaijan to keep up the momentum on climate action. Climate and biodiversity action go hand in hand. Tackling these issues together is key to a sustainable future and #COP16 and #COP29 - and all future conferences - must be interconnected to achieve this. Want to learn more? 🌍 Happy World Lemur Day! 🐒 Today we’re celebrating Madagascar’s incredible lemurs and the amazing work being done to protect their future! With our partners, Madagasikara Voakajy, we’re helping local communities there take the lead in lemur conservation. Since 2015, the Mangabe Protected Area has served as a safe haven for nine lemur species, and our goal is to have it fully managed by local communities by 2040! ✨ By empowering future conservationists with tools and training, we’re helping ensure these unique animals are protected for generations to come.

We've planted a WHOLE woodland to help save UK Wildlife!🌳🐝 Planting 19,000 trees is seriously hard work! 😮💨 But this special place will be a thriving sanctuary for hundreds of species including bees, birds, badgers, foxes, harvest mice and a whole of variety of butterflies and plants. 🦋🌱 Not only that, but the woodland will bring huge benefits to soil health, carbon storage, water and air quality - providing stable ecosystems where wildlife can thrive. 🌿 This is the BIGGEST habitat we've ever created, spanning more than nine hectares, and we can't wait to see it blossom... 🌸 Huge thanks to The Mersey Forest for supporting us on this amazing scheme 🙌

We’ve been busy at The Labour Party Conference this week ensuring the environment, biodiversity and preventing the extinction of wildlife are at the core of the new government’s plans.🌿 We met with Ministers, MPs and Local Councillors to discuss our efforts to restore habitats and recover nature across the UK and beyond.🌍 A special thank you to Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, & Minister for Nature Mary Creagh CBE MP for planting some native species and adding a touch of greenery to the conference. The planter will soon find a new home at a local school! 🪴 Last week, we also attended the Liberal Democrats Conference and we’re heading to The Conservative Party Conference next - we'll do whatever it takes to keep shining a spotlight on our vital conservation work...
