😊 Start your week with a smile by reading about this heart-warming encounter our Sales Engineer, Dean Bruckner, had at The Institute of Navigation Joint Navigation Conference. "Here, US Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Paul Garcia and I met at the Chelton exhibit booth. I served with his father, also Paul Garcia, on the brand new USCG Cutter ORCAS (WPB-1327), a patrol boat we commissioned in April 1989. We navigated her from New Orleans through the Panama Canal, around the Pacific Northwest, and all the way to Adak, Alaska and back. During that Adak trip, CINCPACFLT visited our sister ship, SAPELO, and us in Adak during PACEX-89, capping an evaluation that led to the Navy’s design and purchase of the Cyclone class fast patrol craft. LCDR Garcia serves at the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center (NAVCEN) in Alexandria, Virginia, where he is the Navigation Info Service and GPS Interface Division Chief. Since the beginning of GPS, NAVCEN has been the US Government’s agency serving as the civil interface to GPS, taking reports of GPS interference and anomalies. He is from the new generation of Coast Guard navigators that Chelton serves. Coincidentally, last month the ORCAS was decommissioned after 35 years of continuous service. Today, new cutters, like new Coast Guard personnel, will continue to keep US waterways and infrastructure safe. This chance encounter between LCDR Garcia and me, which would be an amazing coincidence anywhere else, is not that far out of the ordinary at ION JNC. It illustrates the value to Chelton of its year-to-year persistence integrating into the US military, government, and commercial Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) community. It takes years to build an effective network of relationships and organisational contacts, and we can do that more quickly and effectively with events like ION JNC, NavFest and other field tests." This is why we do what we do: the people, the community, and the shared love for making the world a safer place. 🤝
