Without their hard work and passion, the exceptional wine you enjoy wouldn’t be possible. Meet the vineyard team. Here is our vineyard team in their own words, talking about what makes the job so special. Their dedication and insight reveal the true essence of viticulture and winemaking. “Nature is a wonderful thing, because if you watch it closely and listen to it, it’s telling you what to do.”

Earlier this week, we hosted two very special events in London to celebrate 10 years of exceptional winemaking using grapes from our finest vineyard, Kit's Coty. Guests tasted our Kit's Coty Chardonnay 2021 and 2022 vintages, and Kit's Coty Bacchus 2021 and 2022 vintages side-by-side, before a vertical tasting of three Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs vintages: 2019, 2017 and 2014. We also treated them to a glass of our prestige Kit's Coty Coeur de Cuvée 2016. Guided by our Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, guests were able to taste the amazing ageing potential of these wines, in a unique look back at 10 years of English sparkling winemaking. It was wonderful to bring together so many passionate English wine fans for an evening to remember with a snapshot of the past and a toast to the potential of the future. Special thanks to the Pan Pacific London for hosting us and our guests! 🥂 #WineTasting #Events #EnglishWine #ChapelDown #Winemaking

With our vines enjoying this late August sunshine, we’re pleased to give you an update of where we are in the vineyard cycle. After rapid shoot growth in May, and flowering in June, we have seen the grape clusters start to form and develop throughout July and August. We are currently in the phase known as veraison. This marks the point where ripening begins and the grape berries change colour from green to red, or green to yellow. Beneath the skins, acidity levels decrease and natural sugar levels increase. Veraison begins at different points across our vineyards, depending on location and grape variety, with our Early Pinot Noir vines being the first to enter the phase this year. “During this time the grapes absorb moisture from the soil and the leaves begin to convert sunshine into sugars,” says Head Winemaker Josh Donaghay-Spire. “The acidity levels will decrease, and complex flavours are formed which will be the hallmarks of the vintage. It’s an exciting time as we head towards the culmination of the years’ work in the vineyard.” It’s such a thrill to see the fruits of another years’ labour starting to come together as we look ahead to harvest. #viticulture #winemaking #harvest
