📢 84% of the 500 people we heard from across England and Wales said the cost-of-living crisis had made their mental health worse. People shared how the crisis is affecting their sleep, their ability to connect with loved ones and their access to healthy food, with people living with mental health problems and in the deepest poverty among the most affected. We're calling on NHS England and Integrated Care Boards to require all mental health services to offer people money, housing and welfare advice to address the dual crises of mental ill-health and poverty. No one with a mental illness should be left struggling with their finances when help could be at hand to ease this burden. Microaggressions and racism can profoundly affect people’s mental health - and yet they're often overlooked in schools, workplaces and wider society. Our research with Not So Micro shows that 9 out of 10 teachers want anti-racism training, but 70% have never received it. School absences have risen significantly at the same time as escalating rates of mental health problems and child poverty. While the Government has introduced several measures to address the problem, these have so far been ineffective. Our report with Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition (CYPMHC) urges the Government to address the underlying causes of school absence such as poor mental health, child poverty, rejected referrals and unmet SEND needs, so that every child can thrive.
