🚨 Budget 2024: Breaking Down Key Employment Changes 🚨 Today’s UK budget has given us a lot to consider here at Castle HQ, marking a historic announcement by the UK’s first female Chancellor. From an employment and business perspective, the new measures will undoubtedly impact costs and recruitment decisions. 📊 Here are some key takeaways: National Insurance Increases: Employer contributions are set to rise from 13.8% to 15%, with the threshold for contributions dropping from £9,100 to £5,000. These changes will add pressure on businesses, especially SMEs, by significantly increasing their operational costs. Employment Allowance Boost: Smaller businesses will see an increase in the employment allowance from £5,000 to £10,500, which offers some support—though it may not fully offset rising costs and could still deter growth investments. Minimum Wage Hike: The minimum wage will increase to £12.21 per hour for those over 21. While this is good news for employees, it can create a ripple effect, with businesses needing to reassess wages across various skill levels to maintain pay equity. 🌟 Celebrating Our 5th Monthly Hospitality Forum! 🌟 A huge thank you to the Crown Spa Hotel Scarborough for hosting our latest meeting and for the amazing Curry! It was fantastic to have everyone around the table to discuss what’s happening with our local hotels, restaurants, B&B' & attractions, and exciting developments in North Yorkshire. We were also thrilled to welcome representatives from North Yorkshire Council who shared valuable insights on the Destination Management Plan and what’s in the pipeline for tourism in the region. 🏖️ And thanks again to This Is The Coast for helping to spread the word! Another highlight was the discussions around education in hospitality, and I’m excited to be heading up to Scarborough TEC next month, where we’ll be speaking with students who are passionate about the sector. Mental health matters 💚 Today, in honour of Mental Health Day we filled the kitchen with some positive affirmations and quotes to remind everyone  how valued they are 🥰 In spite of the weather, we also managed to get out for a wellbeing walk at lunchtime to have a team catch up and get some fresh air.
