"Drama saved me." For Nonkululeko Busika, those three words capture a journey from silence to self-expression. Growing up as the quiet twin, she often suppressed her emotions to bring joy to her mother. But everything changed in Grade 7 when drama was introduced in her classroom. The simple act of storytelling became her sanctuary—a space where she could finally voice the internal struggles she had long kept hidden. This newfound refuge not only transformed her life but also ignited a passion for using drama to empower others, especially children facing their own silent battles. Romeo Dipura remembers the day, as a child, when the maize his single mother had cultivated was ready to harvest. "The Council came and slashed everything saying it was too close to the river." His mother's tears watered a seed in Romeo's heart that day to struggle against injustice alongside those most affected. For his Masters in Southern Urbanism at UCT, Romeo responded to the problem of illegal electricity connections in townships. "You would see entire families burning in their homes because of malfunctioning electricity connections". In this podcast, he talks about his research into infrastructure access and his deep commitment to social justice. LISTEN to his PODCAS: https://lnkd.in/dJupnh5W
