Do you know how to wash your clothes, what the optimum temperature a fridge should be on, how to budget and navigate household bills, the best ways to maintain a healthy body and mind, or what emergency contacts are needed? These may look like simple questions but very important ones each young person should know, which many adults would get wrong. After many months in development, we have rolled out our first 'Life Skills and Resources Booklet'. 📘 This book has been developed by our Impact and Wellbeing team to help our children in the residential homes become more independent when moving into an age of becoming a young adult. The outcomes of the book are to help understand vital life skills, like healthy lifestyles, food management, money management, basic house responsabilites and much more. We always do things a little different at Bluestones Medical Complex Care and instead of a workbook full of text and reading, there are activities to complete throughout for different ways of learning and interactions. Throughout the book there are links to further materials and more in depth resources and lessons, with the help of The Greenhouse Learning and Development The Greenhouse. We don't think learning should be restricted so as we keep developing our book we will be releasing useful ways and topics for young people to make use of. We have had a great couple of weeks with putting on more impactful workshops for our young people. One focused on crafting standout CVs, guiding participants on highlighting their strengths and mapping out career paths they're passionate about. We also delivered our "Expecting More" RSHE session on teenage pregnancy, followed by interactive activities that got the young people thoughtfully considering the realities and responsibilities of young parenthood. These workshops aim to empower our young people with crucial life skills and knowledge. These workshops are more than just one-off learning experiences, we continue to educate with online resources and follow-up sessions with the help from The Greenhouse. What a day! 🏅🏃♂️🏃♀️ Our Impact and Wellbeing team knocked it out of the park with our first annual Sports Day 2024. What a turnout! Young people and staff came together for a day of friendly competition and team building. The whole day was jam packed with events, races and no athlete can perform on an empty stomach, so we kept everyone fueled up with a spread of burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and refreshing drinks throughout the day. The teams started by tackling our challenging assault and obstacle courses, racing against the clock. But that was just the warm-up! The real excitement kicked in with classic events like tug of war, sack races and the ever-tricky egg and spoon race. The competitive spirit was on full display, with everyone chipping in to make the day, from a guest appearance from Marvin, to our young people helping organise the events and even making the team t-shirts for everyone to wear. A huge shoutout to everyone you joined in - your enthusiasm made this event truly special. Congratulations to our prize winners, and a big thank you to everyone who joined in the fun.
