Nearly a third of children aged 2-15 in the UK are at a higher risk of developing illnesses like type 2 diabetes & heart disease in their futures, and poor diets drive one in five deaths globally. Across the world, the food & drink industry plays a crucial role in shaping what we eat and we need them to produce and market healthier products. It's also vital we can measure their progress, which is why we support Access to Nutrition Initiative's new initiative asking businesses to use evidence-based nutrient profiling models to publish data on their healthier sales.

🥗NEW REPORT: Did you know that there are up to 400 different models to measure the healthiness of food? While some of these Nutrient Profiling Models (NPMs) are created by companies, approximately 80 have been developed by governmental and intergovernmental organizations and are used in nutrition-related policies and regulations.  Due to the lack of standardized nutrition performance measurement tools, it is difficult to monitor the progress of the industry's transition to more nutritious product portfolios. To address this, ATNI (Access to Nutrition Initiative) conducted research in 2023 and 2024 to create alignment on the use of models for reporting on portfolio healthiness. Out of nearly 400 NPMs, three models were found to be the most appropriate for reporting on product portfolio healthiness: Health Star Rating (HSR), Nutri-Score, and the UK NPM. A high level of agreement was observed between these three models when assessing 17 different food product categories. Components for proposed Reporting Guidelines were also identified. To improve corporate reporting for nutrition, ATNI and its investor partners call on food and beverage companies to measure their product portfolios against at least one of the three NPMs (HSR, Nutri-Score, UK NPM) and utilize the proposed Reporting Guidelines to better gauge and compare the healthiness of their products and the sales of ‘healthier’ vs. ‘less healthy’ products. BITE BACK IN THE NEWS 🥳📣 Our CEO James Toop was featured in a Guardian article along with the Obesity Health Alliance, responding to an announcement made by public health minister, Andrew Gwynne, in the Commons yesterday. The minister declared that junk food ads on TV before 9pm and paid-for online ads will be BANNED, with measures coming into force from 1 October 2025! 🚫📺💻 🗣️“These restrictions will help shield children from exposure to unhealthy food and drink advertising, which research shows significantly shapes their relationship with food. We know that the more junk food ads you see, the more unhealthy food you’re likely to consume. Restricting these ads will protect more young people from falling into this trap,” James explained. This is a HUGE step forward in protecting the health of our generation! 💪🌟 Read the full article here! 👉 https://bit.ly/3B0CXQS
