Transforming spaces through green infrastructure and living walls.
About us
Biotecture is the UK’s leading provider of living walls. Our mission is to reconnect people with nature, transforming the places we live and work in for the well-being of people and planet. City streets, offices, homes, train stations, shopping centres, car parks—like our plants, the list of spaces we specialise in keeps on growing. Plants create cleaner air, reduce pollution, and improve people’s health, comfort and productivity—all the while connecting people with nature. In 2019 we delivered one of the world’s largest living walls. Measuring 25,000 square feet and featuring 120,000 plants, the wall was part of the expansion to McArthurGlen’s Designer Outlet in Ashford. We also installed the UK’s first highway living walls to reduce air pollution at one of Southampton’s busiest roundabouts. And, since 2019, our living walls proudly adorn the Big Screen at Wimbledon’s No.1 Court. This installation won the prestigious Living Walls Installations Award from the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI). To see more of our projects and case studies, please visit our portfolio: www.biotecture.uk.com/portfolio Our people are our most precious resource. We enjoy working together to achieve our fullest potential. We are, quite literally, a growing business and we are always looking for dedicated, passionate people to join our team.

Our partners LIKO-S International have just finished this stunning living wall in Bratislava using our BioTile system. BioTile (known as BioPanel in the UK) is a modular hydroponic living wall system made here in the UK. Unlike soil its growing medium, Grodan, is dimensionally stable, chemically inert and extremely water retentive. LIKO-S International are leading the way for green walls in Central Europe and this is their largest project to date. It includes 41,000 and approximately 3200 BioPanels! Great to see a new study confirming the importance of green spaces to help combat the effects of climate change in cities. The world is becoming increasingly urbanised, and temperatures are rising. Cities and urban areas are usually warmer than rural areas due heat reflected off hard surfaces and trapped between buildings. The study by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine shows that urban greenery such as parks and trees play a crucial role in keeping cities cooler and reducing heat-related illnesses and deaths. With rising global temperatures, the need for more greenery in cities has never been more urgent. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ere4e-Jn. Hedera Helix (ivy) varieties are excellent climbers, perfect for adding lush, year-round greenery to our living walls. Most of us will recognise Hedera Helix or Common Ivy, but there are many other varieties which are better suited to living walls. ‘Green Wonder’, ‘Shamrock’ and ‘Sagittifolia’ are compact varieties growing to 1-2m tall. Our living walls are made up a matrix of plants, these ivy varieties add diversity without the risk of smothering other species. All hedera varieties grow quickly and need regular maintenance to keep them in check! 📸 'Green Wonder' 'Shamrock', 'Sagittifolia' varieties + Living wall at the Postal Museum #greenwalls #livingwalls #urbangreening

Three Euonymus fortunei varieties are evergreen staples in our living walls. ‘Emerald ‘n’ Gold’ adds vibrant yellow-edged foliage, while ‘Emerald Gaiety’ offers soft green leaves with white margins for a lighter touch. ‘Dart’s Blanket’ provides dense green cover, making it ideal for filling spaces. All three are hardy, low-maintenance, and perfect for year-round colour, structure, and resilience in both sun and shade. Their year-round foliage offers shelter for insects and small birds, contributing to the biodiversity of urban areas.

We often get asked if we use native plants in our living walls and the answer is yes! But diversity is key and we have found that blending native and non-native plants is the best option for creating beautiful, resilient and biodiverse living walls. Read our latest blog to discover how we curate our plant selections for maximum ecological and aesthetic impact. https://lnkd.in/ePP8--TR #Biodiversity #LivingWalls #UrbanGreening

It's been a decade since we installed this living wall at Winston Way Academy. It creates a stunning, nature-inspired entrance, but it also helps to improve air quality by capturing road-related pollution. The planting design takes its cues from the spiral shapes of galaxies described by Edwin Hubble. Our dedicated maintenance team ensures the wall continues to thrive by carrying out horticultural visits during school holidays—keeping disruptions to a minimum while pruning, refreshing plants, and servicing the irrigation system. < 2014 2024 > #livingwalls #greenwalls #greeninfrastructure #urbangreening

Carex varieties are perfect for adding texture and movement to our living walls. Carex 'Ice Dance' features striking variegated leaves, while Carex 'Irish Green' offers deep green foliage. Both are evergreen, low-maintenance, and adaptable to a variety of light conditions, providing year-round interest and structure to our vertical gardens. Their dense growth offers cover for insects and small wildlife, supporting biodiversity in both rural and urban environments.

Green bus shelter roofs are popping up across the UK, most have Sedum or wildflower meadow roofs but we are trailing an evergreen roof which will provide year round greenery. Outdoor advertising specialists JCDecaux have been trailing innovative bus shelter designs and approached us to help bring their vision to life. Our team designed a unique roof build up using the same growing medium we use in our living walls; Grodan. It also includes a purpose-built reservoir layer with capillary felt that allows the plants to take up the water they need. Grodan is extremely water retentive which will reduce the watering frequencies and provide resilience. We hope this shelter in Wimbledon will the first of many more! #urbangreening #biophilia
