The FDA’s clearance of SleepioRx aligns with the recent proposal from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to introduce new reimbursement codes for FDA-approved digital mental health therapies, which will enable healthcare providers to offer these treatments more widely. Espie has been working with the Royal Navy Submarine service, exploring methodologies to optimise sleep and recovery in Submariners, particularly the use of CBTi to treat insomnia disorder. Pleased to have published a Letter to the Editor in today’s The Guardian, calling out the profession’s ongoing concerns over the lack of availability of the first line, evidence-based treatment for insomnia, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). NICE-recommended treatments like Sleepio could be made available on the NHS rapidly and at scale, helping hundreds of thousands of people with their insomnia and giving the profession other options beyond potentially harmful and addictive medicines. A recent survey by The Patients Association sheds light on the challenges faced by the NHS. More than 1,200 patients from across the UK shared their healthcare experiences and outlined key priorities for the new Government. The Labour Party has pledged to get the NHS back on its feet. This will require a lot of change to address serious, complex, and longstanding challenges. Our UK MD Will Goddard was invited to speak about how the NHS can harness technology to improve mental health at today's 'The Power of Digital Health Partnerships' event, hosted by Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley. The event brings Big Health back to the Thames Valley, the site of Sleepio’s first real-world health economic evaluation in NHS primary care services. Sleepio was found to be cost-saving for the NHS, saving GPs time and reducing prescription medication usage. Ultimately, this evidence led to Sleepio’s landmark NICE guidance in May 2022. Thank you to Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley for giving us the opportunity to celebrate the importance of evidence in helping the NHS bring safe and effective digital innovations to the people that need them.
