Our Policy & Advocacy Director, Tess Godley, brought the Party conference season to a close at The Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with lobbyists, think tanks, and meet former Ministers, thanking them for their support over the last parliament. A few highlights: 📝 We had productive discussions with local government representatives from the West Midlands who were a notable presence, including Mayor Richard Parker. 💡 The "Children at the Table" event was particularly inspiring, where young voices took centre stage alongside Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza and former Number 10 advisor Samuel Kasumu. 🤝 We were honoured to attend informal dinners hosted by the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) and City of London Corporation, where we met with members, MPs, Shadow Ministers, and key figures from the policy and business sectors. The conference provided a chance to reflect on the meaningful collaborations we've built with our partners over the past few years – thank you to everyone who connected with us!

💡 What steps can we take to ensure climate finance meets the needs of diverse places across the UK? Its great to read this report from Rhianydd Griffith and Mark Nicholls exploring the barriers and opportunities associated with scaling up net zero investment at the local authority level in the UK. By comparing the experiences of Westminster City Council and Cumberland Council in their approach to accelerating net zero plans, researchers tested the local applicability of various business models, including renewable energy power purchase agreements and electric vehicle charge point concessions. With impact investors showing an increasing appetite for place-based investments, the report outlines what needs to happen next to turn this potential into reality. 🌎 Tackling the climate emergency requires us to reduce consumption-based emissions. By rethinking how we make, use, and dispose of everyday products, we can achieve significant emission reductions, accelerating the shift towards a more circular economy. 🌱 #CEweek2024 is a week of inspiration and celebration encouraging the adoption of a circular economy, hosted by ReLondon. On this occasion, we’re proud to spotlight three enterprises in our portfolio that are challenging the traditional linear approach of ‘take, make, dispose’ by finding innovative ways to keep materials and products in use for as long as possible.
