Really humbled to learn that we've been featured in Design Council newly published Systemic Design Framework! It asks both designers and non-designers to radically reimagine and create new ways of living, so it's a huge honour to see BEEN London as an example of 'doing it well'. We're super excited and honoured that our work in circular design is featured in Design Council's blog this month!

Since the very beginning, circularity has been at the heart of everything we do here at BEEN. And this Earth Day, we are excited to share three new circular initiatives to offer more end-of-life solutions for your bags. Our approach to circularity runs through everything we do. We craft accessories using materials already in circulation, design in a way that ensures as little waste as possible, and offer repairs in partnership with The Seam to keep our bags in circulation for longer. But the biggest challenge has always been the end of life. Items like bags (and shoes) have lots of components, often glued together making reuse and recycling difficult. Through BEEN Circular, we're offering three initiatives to rehome or recycle your used bags: RESALE: Coming very soon is our own Resale solution for BEEN handbags. DONATE: We're continuing to collect used bags from any brand in a great condition on behalf of Smart Works Charity– a UK charity that helps women secure employment. RECYCLE: For bags truly at the end of their life, we're partnering with Upcycle Labs to create new material. Meet the ALIGNE x BEEN London collection! For our latest collaboration, we joined forces with ALIGNE Fashion to create the London-based fashion brand's first ever accessories collection. The limited edition ALIGNE x BEEN London collection consists of three recycled leather accessories - a directional sling bag with an elongated strap detail, a graphic clutch with a wrist strap and a statement crossbody phone bag. The ALIGNE x BEEN London collection challenges the status quo. Every piece is handcrafted here in the UK from materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. By using only recycled materials - taking what is already in circulation - to create this collection, we are not only showing the potential value of recycling and utilising waste as a resource, but we are also able to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions compared to manufacturing using virgin materials.
