Babbasa is a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting aspiring young people from disadvantaged communities to pursue their professional ambitions. We directly offer less advantaged young people (16-25) access to skills training programmes, mentors (industry professionals) and opportunities (work experience, employment and enterprise resource). We can also provide similar bespoke packages to educational institutions, corporate organisations and youth service providers for their beneficiaries. We also offer professional development programmes to help businesses and organisations create a more diverse and inclusive workforce and culture. For private and public sector organisations, Babbasa offers a unique opportunity for your staff to volunteer on social action projects, become mentors, invest responsibly as sponsors/funders, support as collaborating partners, or provide expert knowledge as an advisor to our management team. Last month, we were pleased to host a visit from Cllr. Tony Dyer (Leader of the Council) and Cllr. Christine Townsend (Policy Chair for the Children and Young People Committee). Our CEO, Nyoaka Squire, and Founder, Poku Pipim Osei FRSA, chatted to them about the work Babbasa does transforming the lives of young people, and how Bristol is pioneering the #OurCity2030 initiative to address the city's social mobility problem for people from low income and ethnic minority backgrounds. 🌱 Business Readiness Workshop 🌱 Last week we hosted a Business Readiness Workshop led by one of our Equal Opportunity Ambassadors (EOAs), Daniel Yuki Smith, from Interaction Learning and Development. The workshop itself focussed on supporting young people to help integrate into the workplace, understand corporate culture and develop essential professional skills. There were interactive discussions on personal and professional experiences, group activities exploring workshop expectations and live workplace scenarios performed by actors. 🌱 80% of our young people said they had increased confidence as a result 🌱 80% said they now feel equipped to make more informed decisions Thank you so much to Daniel and to all the young people and staff involved. It was an incredibly valuable session in supporting our young people to help them feel prepared for business and the workplace environment! At our recent Insight Day with SILVERBACK FILMS, 11 young people had a great opportunity to learn about what goes into Natural History programme making, and get some ‘hands on’ experience within: editorial, production management, kit, and DIT (digital imaging technicians) processes. Our young people had fun developing a story for their own mini natural history documentary and learned a lot of great tips on how to break into the film production industry. The top 3 things that the young people felt that they improved on: ✨ Gained more knowledge and understanding of working within the industry ✨ Made connections with professionals within the industry ✨ Helped to understand where to find information to help with future career plans and choices It was an amazing day, thank you SILVERBACK FILMS. #OurCity2030 #SilverbackFilm #Bristol
We recently hosted an insight day with Babbasa (who support 16-25 year olds from disadvantaged communities in their career aspirations) to help a group of passionate young people learn about making natural history films, and share tips on how to break into the industry. It was a packed day; from our producers helping them to storyboard their own mini wildlife documentary, to our teams sharing what goes into production management and the editing process, to our kit experts giving the group hands-on experience with film equipment.
