The Royal Academy of Dance has picked up a RIBA National Award!
Chartered architect and founding director of Atomik Architecture. Making buildings and sites work harder for our clients, building users and the environment.
Great to see that the new headquarters for the Royal Academy of Dance is one of only 26 projects to win a RIBA National Award this year. It was a super-inspiring project to work on with a fabulous team and it is great that it has been rewarded in this way. https://lnkd.in/d3ZGHg3r

Model Monday – Belgravia Home: 1.50 Card Model (2022) Roles: Architecture | Interior Design | Heritage | Principal Designer Using large scale models to talk through the design (and issues) with the client, design team, contractor and sub-contractor is an invaluable resource. Especially on complex buildings where nothing is as simple as it appears. We are currently on site with this Grade II listed, 1165sqm house which will become the clients London home for their family and house-keeping staff. The works cover the remodelling of four historic properties, the existing two- storey basement spa complex and creating a garden guest wing and staff accommodation over the garage. Converted from a school 20 years ago, and several insensitive interior interventions, had resulted in a patchwork of living accommodation that did not reflect the history and quality of a property of this stature. Atomik have worked closely with the client, the Westminster planning heritage officer and Grosvenor Estate, to create a sensitive refurbishment that meets the clients design aspirations whilst being respectful of the listed building fabric. #atomikarchitecture #londonarchitecture #residential #listed #heritage #modelmaking #engagement

It was great to talk to RIBA about the Principal Designer Role. We are genuinely surprised by the lack of uptake and engagement with the role. In addition, we are starting to hear that clients are avoiding practices that are refusing to take on the role. It would be a shame if we end up becoming a two-tiered profession as a result. #RIBA #RIBAJ #PrincipalDesigner #London #LondonArchitect #BuildingSafetyAct

The new Royal Academy of Dance Global Headquarters has just been awarded a RIBA London award. It was a real privilege to work with Takero Shimazaki and his team, to help deliver this inspirational new facility. It was a complex project, involving two client bodies, two contractors, two project managers, three sets of professional teams and a global pandemic. However, there was genuine positive desire to come together and collaborate to achieve a single vision for the Royal Academy of Dance. Atomik News: Our Managing Director, Mike Oades, has joined RIBA’s Principal Designer Register. He joins the 21 other chartered architects in the UK who are currently on the register. The RIBA Principal Designer Register allows individual RIBA Chartered Members in the UK to demonstrate that they meet the competence criteria to serve as principal designers and to perform the principal designer role effectively. This is a poignant time in the profession. It is an opportunity to demonstrate and reaffirm the importance of the architect at the centre of the design process within the built environment. Please feel free to get in touch with Mike if you would like to talk about how he can help you. Atomik Architecture #londonarchitecture #principaldesigner #buildingsafetyact #RIBA

Shining the spotlight on Earth Day 2024 (although technically every day is and should be Earth Day) Protecting the environment matters to everyone here at Atomik – not only at work, but at home and in the community as well. It is well documented that ‘the buildings and construction sector is by far the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, accounting for a staggering 37% of global emissions. The production and use of materials such as cement, steel, and aluminium have a significant carbon footprint’ (UN Environment Program, Sept 2023) Here in the studio, sustainability and the environment are at the top of the agenda. Atomik are dedicated to helping client’s achieve their sustainable outcomes. ‘The Atomik Architecture Net Zero Carbon Handbook’ is on hand to support our studio in setting and attaining positive environmental outcomes on projects – from the retrofit of Grade II listed residential to new build office schemes. #earthday #architecture #atomikarchitecture #sustainability #environment
