"There’s joy to be found in every moment, if you choose to look for it." Mand Black, has been attending our Day Services since April 2023. She lives with metastatic cancer, as well as her 'accidental friend', Heidi Keeling. Mand and Heidi recently started their own podcast 'Laugh before death' to open conversations around living with terminal cancer. They hope to connect with people and give them the confidence to have difficult conversations. At Ashgate, we encourage open conversations about death and dying. We'd like to give a huge thank you to Jayne Lindley for raising a whopping £3,375.21 (including Gift Aid) towards our care. 🙌 Earlier this summer, Jayne cycled from London to Paris, nearly 40 years after she peddled to to help fund the formation of our hospice. After her cycling challenge, she continued to raise vital funds by raffling her bike, which was kindly donated by JE James Cycles. And the fundraising hasn't stopped there; the winner of the raffle has generously re-donated the bike for Jayne to sell to add to the total amount raised. Round of applause for everyone involved. "I’ll do what I can in Parliament to support our hospices, and I hope everyone in Chesterfield will do what they can to support Ashgate Hospice." After his constituents brought Hospice UK's campaign for fairer funding for hospices to his attention, Toby Perkins MP has agreed to make the case to the new Labour Government to review the funding model for hospices and increase support.
