Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur is one of the tallest buildings in the world and is intrinsically linked to the country’s identity. Merdeka means independence in Malay. Its form was inspired by the outstretched hand gesture made by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister on 31 August 1957 , when he declared the nation’s independence at Stadium Merdeka. We’ve been involved as the civil and structural engineer of record from early excavation to completion. Explore the project and watch the video in full to learn more from our project engineers: https://bit.ly/4e0v0ta #Malaysia #Merdeka118 #TallBuildings #SoutheastAsia

We are working on some of the most impactful high-speed rail routes around the world. In California, we’re delivering sustainability services for a new high-speed rail line, an 800km+ route from Los Angeles to San Francisco which is one of busiest short haul flight paths in the USA. Our scope of work includes renewable energy modelling, climate adaptation, sustainable design, managing emissions, carbon offsetting, and sustainability reporting. The line will run on 100% renewable energy, drawing on 35 MW of solar panels and 140 MWh of battery storage. In the Welsh resort town of Porthcawl, our analysis identified more than 530 homes and 175 businesses at flood risk from the deteriorating Western Breakwater, a Grade II listed 19th century structure that has been crucial element of the town’s coastal defences. In the latest edition of The Arup Journal, we provide an in-depth look at the Porthcawl Sandy Bay Coastal Scheme, and our design of renewed flood defences that not only enhance the community’s coastal resilience, biodiversity and amenity but also will support regeneration of this bustling town on the South Wales coast.
