Welcome to The Association for Admissions, Marketing and Communications in Independent Schools (AMCIS). We help independent schools thrive by advancing professional expertise in admissions, marketing and communications in a friendly, supportive membership community. We have been serving the independent schools sector for over 25 years and are a growing organisation, with over 500 member schools containing 2000+ individuals working in and/or responsible for admissions, marketing & communications. The majority of AMCIS members are UK schools. If you work in independent school admissions, marketing and communications in any way, we're here to inspire you to do the best job possible, by providing you with CPD and networking opportunities, and the professional expertise to help your school thrive – all in a friendly, supportive membership community. Many of our events are also open to non-members but by joining AMCIS you can access discounted rates. As a member, you have the opportunity to share best practice and specialist knowledge, access high quality professional development and a range of in-person and online events at preferential rates. We provide members with support and advice, frequent communications - including a weekly bulletin featuring the latest sector vacancies - plus dedicated LinkedIn and Facebook member-only groups and, of course, plenty of inspiration.

Parents make difficult decisions and sacrifices to educate their children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in independent schools. Charging 20% VAT on fees would hit struggling parents hardest. Increasing the cost of fees by applying VAT would restrict parents’ access to the specialist education their children desperately need. Independent schools add vital capacity to the wider education system, providing SEND support for 120,000 pupils. VAT is a tax on goods and services. Schools would have no choice but to apply the 20% increase to fees. Most schools in ISC membership are small and operate on tight margins. They would not be able to ‘absorb’ the cost of VAT without risking closure. We should not create barriers for parents who choose independent schools to support their child’s needs. The independent sector frees up state SEND provision and reduces strain on already stretched state schools.
