About us

Almost one million people are living with dementia today. Tragically, not one of them will survive. Alzheimer's Research UK exists to change that. As the UK’s leading dementia research charity, we are working to revolutionise the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia. And then, we will find a way to cure it. To do this, we’re investing in the best research, powering the most forward-thinking scientists and joining forces with world-class organisations. With your support, we promise we will not stop until dementia can no longer destroy lives. We are Alzheimer's Research UK. We exist for a cure.

Since owner James' Dad passed away in 2012 from Alzheimer's disease, the incredible teams at ShredBank and Knockbracken Fuels in Northern Ireland have raised £50,000 #ForCure. They host a monthly 'shredathon' in their local shopping centre where the team spends 2 hours of their time volunteering to shred the local communities' important documents in exchange for a donation. They've also integrated it for customers so they can donate through Knockbracken Fuels too! Thank you to everyone at Shredbank and Knockbracken Fuels for their support in helping us change the ending for everyone affected by dementia. 🧡 Find out how your business can support us through fundraising in the workplace at https://lnkd.in/eda9WTyz

“People would say, are you alright? Or they'd say, would you like to come round for dinner? Or would you like to go out for a drink? And I'd say, no, I'm not really feeling up to it. Well, actually, the answer is no, I'm not feeling up to it at all. I don't want to do it because I've got dementia.” Veteran broadcaster Alastair Stewart and his wife, Sally, open up about what their lives have been like since his diagnosis of vascular dementia. We’re so grateful to have Alastair and Sally standing with us #ForACure.

It’s vital that the work we do reaches every person, regardless of their identity and lived experience, for a cure. Actor Stephen Tompkinson is standing with Alzheimer’s Research UK #ForACure in honour of his father, Brian, who died with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015. If nothing changes, one in two of us will be directly affected by dementia – either by developing the condition ourselves, caring for someone with it, or both. As the UK's leading dementia research charity, we’re determined to stop this from becoming a reality. A massive thank you to Anita Harris for standing with us this World Alzheimer's Month. This year has marked the year anniversary of the passing of Anita's husband Mike who had been living with dementia for a number of years. To help change the ending for others and to mark the anniversary, Anita released a single dedicated to Mike called Never Lose Hope. A moving and deeply personal song, it was inspired by Mike's battle with this cruel disease with all profits going to help our search #ForACure. We are thrilled to announce that we have won ‘PR Team of the Year’ in the #CharityTimesAwards 2024 with Frank Rothwell’s Atlantic campaign! This award recognises excellence in charity PR, demonstrating success in press and media. Earlier this year, 73-year-old Frank completed a 3,000-mile row across the Atlantic Ocean in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. His row and fundraising achieved fantastic press and public engagement, landing appearances on BBC North West, ITV Granada, the BBC Breakfast sofa and many more to raise vital funds and awareness #ForACure. 🏆 The team had daily phone calls with Frank throughout his 64-day row across the Atlantic, covering everything from melting chocolate, upcoming interviews, whale spotting and capsizing – which happened to Frank four times during the crossing. Thank you to the Charity Times for recognising our work to make the campaign a success, and a big thanks to everyone who followed and supported Frank’s row this year. What a great way to celebrate! 🧡 A shout out and congratulations to all who were shortlisted and all who won last night.
