The #BlueLight approach challenges the belief that only drinkers who show clear motivation to change can be helped. While we may not always be able to make someone change completely, we can help reduce harm and manage the risk they pose to themselves and others. There are lots of myths about #alcoholharm and this #AlcoholAwarenessWeek we are setting the story straight. Alcohol harm can affect any one of us, regardless of our age, background or location. It can impact our health and wellbeing in all sorts of ways, sometimes on a daily basis - from the quality of the sleep we’re getting to our relationships with those we love. 🚨However, ending alcohol harm is totally possible! It will require bold changes that address things like how alcohol is sold and marketed to us; making sure we are properly informed about our own risks from drinking alcohol; and tackling the stigma associated with seeking help for drinking issues – giving us all a better chance of living in a society where alcohol takes less of a centre-stage role. Alcohol Change UK reposted this
This week is Alcohol Awareness Week and we have been working with the charity Alcohol Change UK on the campaign film and a series of short content films to raise awareness. Taking place from 1 to 7 July, Alcohol Awareness Week is a week of awareness-raising and campaigning for change. This year the theme is 'Understanding alcohol harm’ and our film explores many aspects of alcohol harm and the impact on health, family and wider society. The film discusses how alcohol can sometimes play a centre stage role in our lives. It’s promoted as we watch our favourite sports, advertised as we travel to work and strategically placed in our favourite films and TV shows. It’s there when we celebrate, commiserate and when we’re just trying to cope. Support, advice and free resources are available on the Alcohol Change UK website https://lnkd.in/d7epqCk #AlcoholAwarenessWeek #alcoholchange #alcoholchangeuk

Now that the country has elected a new Government, we look forward to working with all MPs to make sure ending alcohol harm is a priority. We need lasting policies which protect our health and fix a system which is not adequately addressing the numerous and diverse harms alcohol causes our society. But change is possible! Here's a reminder of what we’d like to see: ✔️Create an environment which prevents alcohol harm ✔️End stigma and recognise the complexity of alcohol harm ✔️Ensure everyone can access support and treatment You can read our full manifesto asks here: https://lnkd.in/eVWS4Ewj #EndAlcoholHarm #AlcoholAwarenessWeek

Would you want alcohol to impair your ability to work? It may seem obvious that most people wouldn’t, however, drinking the night before will certainly show up at work the following day. This is why it is important to understand that if you are going to drink, you know the guidance and how much alcohol will affect you, so that you can make informed decisions. The team at InterSystems UKI were keen to learn how much is too much, so we provided our ‘Mindful Drinking’ seminar to them. This 1-hour talk gave them tips and tricks on how to be more careful when it comes to consuming alcohol and how to implement this into their daily lives. We were pleased to see such great interaction from the team and glad that the subject of mindful drinking is being prioritised in their wellbeing program. If you would like to reduce the risk of alcohol impairing your team’s work, you can arrange these seminars today: [email protected] #AlcoholAwarenessWeek #Workplacewellbeing #HR #training

Our society has adapted to the idea of drinking alcohol to relax after work. This could be in the form of post work socials or reverting to the bottle at home. If drinking becomes a habit, we may become dopamine-deficient, which could lead to us experiencing low mood. This is just one of the effects that alcohol can have on the brain and there are many more both short-term and long-term. Earlier this week we visited Sky to deliver a seminar on ‘Alcohol and mental health’. The team there understand how important it is to look after the mental wellbeing of the workforce and that alcohol is a crucial part of that conversation.
