Measuring soil carbon stocks accurately is complex due to three key challenges: 🌱 There is considerable natural variation in soil types across different landscapes. 🌱 Changes in soil carbon stocks are often subtle, marked by small percentage shifts, which demands highly sensitive detection methods. 🌱 Ensuring these changes are detectable and statistically significant (an indication that an observed result is likely not due to chance but reflects an actual difference). At Agricarbon, we specialise in overcoming these challenges. Our approach ensures precise, reliable soil carbon measurement, promoting sustainable land management. Rigorous and Cost-Effective Soil Carbon Measurement at Scale.
About us
Agricarbon provides rigorous and affordable soil carbon testing at scale, throughout the UK and Europe. We specialise in measuring soil organic carbon over large areas of farmland and other soils. We follow a globally respected scientific protocol for sampling and analysis, but use mechanisation, automation, and economies of scale to do so at a very low cost. Our processing facility is capable of analysing thousands of samples each week, providing businesses, farmers, and landowners with a unique view of soil carbon stock.

Agricarbon is delighted to welcome Dr Daniela Cuba as our new Environmental Statistician. Daniela joins us with an impressive background, having earned a PhD in Environmental Statistics from the University of Glasgow with research that focused on methodologies to model environmental contamination in soils and air. Beyond academia, she has valuable experience from her time at the British Geological Survey, where she developed a passion for applied statistical research in the earth sciences. At Agricarbon, Daniela will lead research in sampling theory, ensuring that our measurements are statistically robust and meet the evolving needs of our clients. As the carbon monitoring market and policies mature, Daniela’s role is crucial in developing innovative, tailored approaches for sampling that uphold the highest standards of statistical rigour. "I am absolutely thrilled to be working for a carbon monitoring company that is committed to science-based and statistically robust sampling and analysis of soil carbon. I consider carbon sequestration to represent a vital effort in the fight against climate change and I am excited to be able to contribute". We are confident that Daniela’s expertise, analytical precision, and dedication will bring invaluable insights and drive to our team. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Daniela. Welcome aboard! 👋 #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilCarbon #ClimateAction #DataScience #CarbonMonitoring #EnvironmentalStatistics

Along with our colleagues for the ARCZeroNI project, we have been named in the October issue of BBC Countryfile Magazine. The eight-page article is about 'guilt-free meat' and discusses the success of the ArcZero project. The Northern Irish project has led the way, showing livestock farmers that net zero is more than possible. Thanks to Prof. John Gilliland OBE DSc, for his ongoing hard work and the success of the Arc Zero project. Thanks to Agrecalc for sharing the article in a way we all can access. #livestock, #agriculture #netzero #soilcarbon #dairyfarming, #livestockfarming
Friday #humblebrag: Agrecalc is mentioned in Countryfile magazine, thanks to Prof. John Gilliland OBE DSc of Brook Hall Estate & Gardens and the amazing ArcZero project.

Sampling the North Wessex Downs, England 🏴 With a changing climate, the weather is at the forefront of people's minds. In England, it has been very wet, and many farmers are wrestling with the conditions. Some still need to get out and drill their winter crops but have pushed back until things dry up. Fortunately, a needed break in the weather has arrived... As farmers are now drilling, our operators are also out in the fields. Here is a beautiful view of the North Wessex Downs, where we are sampling a cluster of farms for one of our customers, a Carbon Project Developer. #soilcarbon #soil #carboncredits #carbon #regenerativeagriculture

🌱 Soil: the 'dirt' we all walk over every day is an entire world that we still know far too little about. 🌱 And as it's the second largest active store of carbon in the world after the ocean (yes, a *lot* more than trees), it's about time we ramped up our exploration and understanding of it! It was a pleasure speaking with Lisa Ann Pinkerton on Earthlings 2.0, The Podcast about how we establish what is hidden beneath our feet. If you fancy geeking out for half an hour over your lunch break, this episode should serve as a pretty good introductory guide to why our treatment of soil could make or break our future on Earth. The future of our planet lies beneath our feet. 🌱 Isabella Tree, a leading voice in environmental conservation, captures this perfectly: “The great concerns of our time – climate change, natural resources, food production, water control and conservation, and human health – all boil down to the condition of the soil.” At Agricarbon, our innovative soil carbon quantification work supports rewilding initiatives that restore ecosystems and promote biodiversity. Do you know we are beginning to serve the US market with robust soil carbon measurement? The foundations have been set in South Carolina by our US operations team. They joined us last month and are setting up our new automated soil carbon analysis facility in Piedmont, SC. As Agricarbon Co-founder, Stewart Arbuckle, says: “We were very lucky to meet Eric and Dow on a site scoping visit to South Carolina in the Spring - their previous company (serving the automotive industry) was shutting down their factory, and Agricarbon was invited to present job opportunities to the team. It quickly became apparent that they were highly skilled in the required areas and shared the same cultural values, which are very important to us. Eric and Dow agreed to come on board, followed by colleagues Erica, Tracy and Andres - giving us a ready-made dream team to hit the ground running in South Carolina!” If you would like to know more about our US operations, please contact Kim ten Wolde.
