Did you know that city trees can cool the surface temperature by up to 12°C? With 2024 set to be the hottest year on record, don't underestimate the cooling benefits of trees 🌳🌳🌳 https://lnkd.in/eCRgX_SB
How much cooler is land temperature under trees than in the sun? Research says trees can cool the land surface temperature of cities by up to 12°C! ☀ On a hot summer’s day, we headed out and asked people to measure the temperature in the shade and in the sun to see the difference. There were some surprising results (and surprised reactions). Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eBHPJ2uj 🏙🌡 The Urban Heat Island effect is a phenomenon where urban areas experience significantly higher temperatures than their rural surroundings due to human activities, increased heat retention by buildings and pavement, and reduced natural cooling from vegetation. A massive thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery for their support, which means we can plant and protect urban trees.

Reckon you can beat AI at table tennis? Nope, us neither. Love this product demo with a difference from Google DeepMind. Reminds us of a creative idea we called "Manual you vs. digital you" — but that's another story. Shout out to our brilliant client ABB too. You'll spot their logo on the robotic arm. https://lnkd.in/eyPqr9uE
Point, game, match. 🏓 We’re presenting the first AI-powered robot to achieve amateur human-level performance in table tennis. 🤖 Here’s how we built it: 🔵 The sport has served as a benchmark for robotics research since the 1980s. The system has to be good at low level skills, such as returning the ball, as well as high level skills, like strategizing and long-term planning to achieve a goal. 🔵 To train the robot, we gathered a dataset of initial table tennis ball states - which included information about position, speed, and spin. 🔵 The robot went up against 29 human opponents it had never played before across 4️⃣ different skill levels during our research - from beginner to advanced - with it scoring in the middle. This implies it can operate like an intermediate amateur. 🔵 While this work focuses on table tennis, it shows how robots can learn to perform complex tasks in the real world that require physical skill, perception as well as strategic decision-making. Today is #EarthOvershootDay. In the last seven months, we’ve already used 100% of the natural resources that the Earth can renew in a year. With five months of consumption yet to go, it's a powerful reminder that we all need to make changes. At Agency Inc, we’re keen to challenge the change makers, to start thinking and doing things differently. We're all in the process of completing IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising)’s Ad NetZero qualification. This will help our team better understand the role we can play in achieving Net Zero emissions from the development, production and media placement of advertising by 2030. Together, we can all make a difference! 🌍🌱 #NetZero #ChallengeTheChangeMakers

Between 30-50% of newly-planted urban trees die within their first year due to lack of water or an overgrown environment. In the summer, Trees for Cities do all they can to ensure young trees survive the heat and thrive in the best possible conditions. This week we joined them in weeding, watering and breathing new life into trees, to help make London a healthier, greener place 🌳
