This week, we were delighted that the first ever iCAN: The Insurance Cultural Awareness Network and Link: LGBTQ+ Insurance Network event for Black Pride could be held at AEGIS London. Thank you to our network partners, to everyone who attended and, of course, to the amazing panel Indi April, Esan Swan, Maurice Rose and host Char Bailey for sharing your stories, shining a light on intersectionality and giving your insights on how to be an active ally 👏
🌟 Celebrating with Pride! This week, we held our first Black Pride event hosted by iCAN, AEGIS London, and Link: LGBTQ+ Insurance Network. Our panel, "Black Pride and Unity: Celebrating Their Stories," was a resounding success, highlighting the voices of Black LGBTQ+ professionals in the insurance industry. 🎤 What was the event about? In a continuous effort to promote diversity and inclusion within the insurance sector, we brought together an incredible panel of Black LGBTQ+ professionals to share their unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs. We were thrilled to feature a diverse group of panellists: ⭐ Char Bailey, Director of People at Birmingham Pride (UK) Ltd ⭐ Esan Swan, Picture Editor at Financial Times ⭐ Indi April, Service Desk Analyst at Tokio Marine Kiln ⭐ Maurice Rose, Co-Chair at Link: LGBTQ+ Insurance Network Attendees shared their thoughts on the evening, with many highlighting the powerful and vulnerable stories shared by our speakers. One attendee noted how the event showcased the importance of care and compassion across all groups, while another appreciated the insights on cultivating culture, intersectionality, and active allyship within the industry. 🗣️ Charlotte Kleeman who attended the event shared the actionable steps shared by the speakers to be an active ally: 🏳️🌈 Create safe spaces where people feel comfortable being their whole selves. 🏳️🌈 Educate yourself on issues colleagues may be facing through books, documentaries, and news. 🏳️🌈 Speak up against discrimination and support those affected. 🏳️🌈 Create opportunities for underrepresented colleagues to contribute to key conversations. 🏳️🌈 Include everyone in regular events, fostering a culture of acceptance and belonging. A brilliant takeaway from the evening came from Indi April, who reminded us all: “It’s simple really, just be you.” A big thank you to our panellists, sponsors, and everyone who attended for making this event a memorable one! We have been working with tech company hyperexponential to implement state-of-the-art pricing system at AEGIS London, hx Renew. The partnership has been a great success resulting in the build of 58 pricing models within just nine months and improved decision making based on that data.
