We help people in the most need across Oxfordshire by working with partners to increase physical activity.
About us
Active Oxfordshire, formerly OxSPA, works with partners across Oxfordshire to increase physical activity across the county. Oxfordshire is the county with the lowest level of inactivity in England - but there are still 105,000 people officially classified as inactive. Active Oxfordshire focuses on people in deprived areas, older people and vulnerable groups. We work with our partners and stakeholders to show our collective contribution to national and local outcomes and priorities and to make physical activity and sport a part of everyone's lives in Oxfordshire.

The Cherwell Senior and Voluntary Sector forum took place last Wednesday. Bringing together around 80 representatives from different organisations across Cherwell, from small grass root groups to bigger organisations. 🤝 It provided a great opportunity to share the work that is happening across the district, ideas and best practice. 🥇 Richard Claydon and Emily Myhill attended and received a lot of interest at the #MoveTogether stall. 💜 Emily was also a panel speaker, sharing information on #OxfordshireontheMove and its ambitions and working groups. There was considerable interest in the upcoming Active Neighbourhood Scan in Banbury Grimsbury. 🗣 📍 The forum was expertly chaired by counsellor Rob Pattenden, superbly organised by Laura and Paul and provided a great opportunity for networking. We even tried a bit of Tai Chi Chih, courtesy of Adam Lacey. 🥋 Many thanks to everyone involved 🙌 For more information on #OxfordshireontheMove check out it's website: https://lnkd.in/eHFcEAFM

📢 We're absolutely delighted to announce that our new Early Years and Maternity activity pathways are live! 📢 Thanks to a record level of funding for activity in Oxfordshire, we've been able to expand #YouMove to include activity offers for under 5s and expand #MoveTogether to increase activity offers for pregnant and post-natal women. 👶 🤱 🤰 This is a huge step forward for Oxfordshire. We now have a targeted, personalised activity offer in place that covers the entire life-course. Focusing on early years means that we can give our youngest generation the best possible chance for an active start in life and will support priority agendas including school readiness. The early years offer will see city and district councils, Home-Start UK and Active Oxfordshire all working together to reach under 5s and their families at highest risk of inactivity. 🐾 We know that 28% of women start pregnancy overweight and 22% as obese, placing them at risk of adverse outcomes, so the new maternity activity offer will make a significant difference to health and wellbeing during pregnancy and beyond. 📉 This expansion has been made possible thanks to funding and support from NHS Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board, Oxfordshire County Council Healthy Oxon and city and district councils – another outstanding example of system working and the power of taking a preventative approach. 🤝 To find out more about our new #YouMove early years offer, visit: https://lnkd.in/eTFb-E_H To find out more about our new #MoveTogether maternity offer, visit: https://lnkd.in/ej9vZW4E Oxford City Council Cherwell District Council South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils West Oxfordshire District Council HOME-START OXFORD Home-Start Banbury, Bicester & Chipping Norton

Last week Heidi Yates was in London at London Sport HQ with colleagues from the South East and London Active Partnerships 📍 As a regional group we have grown over the past 9 months and have been meeting quarterly to share ideas and experiences. Now, with new members on board, it was fantastic to connect, discuss our journey so far, and welcome the newest team members. 👋 We're excited for what lies ahead as we continue to collaborate and support each other as we aim to make the world of sport and physical activity safer for all. ⛑

My Life My Choice hosted an introductory day for their Health and Happiness project on Tuesday, and kindly invited us along to represent #MoveTogether 👋 My Life My Choice’s Health and Happiness project aims to offer education, information and support to 20 adults with learning disabilities to help them achieve their personal health goals, and also assist local health and support services to better communicate and address the health needs of adults with learning disabilities. 😀 This is with thanks to their funders, the NHS Buckinghamshire Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board 🙌 Emily, Richard and Michael had a great time at the event, where Emily spoke about the #MoveTogether pathway, Richard ran a seated exercise session to music and Michael organised ball and target games. A lot of fun and laughs were had! 🗣 💺 🏐 We then handed out communication passports for project members to share how they prefer to communicate and what types of physical activity they like and supported project members to sign up for #MoveTogether 🛂 We are very excited to take part in this project and we hope project members will benefit from the support the pathway offers and we will also be able to improve #MoveTogether going forwards ⏭ Find out more about the #MoveTogether pathway and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dAwi89p
