In his feature in the Irish Independent this morning he discusses how PIAs can help farmers to restructure the original debt at a normal interest rate over the long term. “There is a huge increase in judgements being sought, receivers being appointed, repossession cases, and bankruptcy proceedings being brought in relation to farms and farm debts. All of these invariable strategies seek to take the farm and lands from farmers as quickly as possible. A PIA, however, gives the borrower the benefit of court protection. A recent APA survey shows that owner-managed businesses are overcoming challenges. Of those surveyed 28% see growth as their main priority over the next 12 months. At the same time, 65% stated that they were unlikely to make significant capital investments in the same period. There are several pressures and challenges plaguing owner-managed businesses at this time. One thing that does ring clear, however, is that despite the challenges they are facing, owner-managed companies remain strong and hopeful with growth on the horizon.
