Yesterday, we lost Tariq Mohammed, our Head of Operations, after a period of ill health. Tariq was a cornerstone of 44.01 from our earliest days, and his fingerprints are on everything we have achieved. But beyond his work, Tariq was an extraordinary person. His kindness, humour, and positivity lit up every room, even when he was faced with health challenges. He truly was one of a kind and we will miss him deeply. Our thoughts are with Tariq's wife, Samantha, and the rest of his family and friends. We will honour Tariq’s memory by carrying forward the generosity, dedication, and joy he brought into all our lives.

Attending COP29 in Azerbaijan as part of the Omani delegation was a great honor. Representing 44.01 alongside Dr Abigail Mabey provided an excellent opportunity to share our work and engage with global leaders shaping the future of climate solutions. On November 15th, I was part of a panel discussion on “Ambitious Climate Targets through Engineered Carbon Removal Technologies”, moderated by Mohammed Al-Ghareebi, and joined by Nabil Al-Bulushi, Tim Dixon, and Hamed Al Mamari. The discussion focused on the importance of scalable carbon removal technologies, innovative business models, and policy frameworks needed to achieve ambitious climate goals. On November 18th, I also had the privilege of participating in the session “Shaping the Future of Climate Solutions and Inspiring the Next Generation”, moderated by Vivian Wood and alongside Svenja Telle and Yousuf Al Rawahi, we explored the role of collaboration, youth engagement, and innovative solutions in catalising climate action. COP29 highlighted the urgent need for collaboration to address regulatory challenges, which often outweigh technological hurdles in scaling climate solutions. Discussions emphasized the importance of creating robust frameworks, ensuring integrity in carbon markets, and addressing financing gaps to support emerging carbon removal technologies. A recurring theme was the need to focus on durability and permanence rather than categorizing solutions as natural or technology-based. The event showcased the maturation of the sector, with growing recognition of innovative approaches like those of 44.01, and underscored the critical role of MRV in ensuring long-term climate impact. A major achievement at COP29 that has the potential to address these challenges is the establishment of the Article 6 framework. This framework facilitates international cooperation through carbon markets, enabling countries to meet emission reduction targets by trading carbon credits. By promoting cost-effective mitigation strategies and encouraging global investments in sustainable projects, Article 6 aims to ensure environmental integrity and transparency, fostering a collaborative global effort to combat climate change. Its implementation is expected to provide the robust regulatory structures necessary to overcome existing barriers, thereby accelerating the deployment of effective climate solutions worldwide. Throughout the event, it was inspiring to see the recognition that 44.01 has garnered in just four years, reflecting our commitment to scaling effective carbon removal solutions. I had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, exchange ideas, and discuss potential collaborations that will drive forward our mission of creating a sustainable future. I look forward to continuing these conversations and building on the momentum created at COP29. #COP29 #ClimateAction #CarbonRemoval #CollaborationForClimate #CCS #technolagy

Last week, XPRIZE visited the UAE to see us capturing CO2 and turning it into rock in the mountains of Fujairah. Our Direct Air Capture + Mineralisation project with Aircapture was named one of #XPRIZECarbonRemoval's Top 20 finalists earlier this year, and we were delighted to show the XPRIZE team our technology in action. This is the first phase of our scale up in the UAE, and a step forward towards carbon mineralisation at commercial scale.     #Mineralisation #DAC #CDR

We are delighted to welcome Sverre Overå, former Project Director of Northern Lights, to 44.01. Sverre brings more than 40 years’ experience as a leader for energy development projects in Norway and Brazil, latterly as director of the Northern Lights Project, the world’s first cross-border Carbon Transport and Storage project. Speaking about joining 44.01, Sverre said “44.01’s mineralisation technology offers a promising solution for safe, permanent CO2 storage, and a valuable alternative to storage in sedimentary geological formations. I am looking forward to working with the 44.01 team to help refine their technology and demonstrate its commercial application.” Sverre will advise 44.01 as we look to scale internationally and deploy our technology outside the Middle East for the first time. This morning at #ADIPEC, we announced plans to scale up carbon mineralisation in the UAE with ADNOC Group. This follows the successful completion of our initial UAE pilot, which turned 10 tonnes of CO2 into rock in less than 100 days. As a next step, 44.01 supported by ADNOC and Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, will inject more than 300 tonnes of CO2 into the peridotites of Fujairah, as we compete for the Carbon Removal XPRIZE. This project, a collaboration with Aircapture, was named one of the XPRIZE Top 20 finalists earlier this year. Thank you to our partners, ADNOC, FNRC and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company). We look forward to working with you to further refine our technology and demonstrate the commercial viability of #mineralisation in the UAE. Our UAE pilot was awarded the Best Research in Carbon Footprint Removal award at this year's International Fujairah Mining Forum. This award reflects the significant role our technology can play in decarbonising places like Fujairah that have an abundance of reactive rocks like peridotite. Thank you to our partners ADNOC Group Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) and to the International Fujairah Mining Forum for recognising our project.

Measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification (#MMRV) is critical to safe, permanent carbon storage. This week, our MMRV Lead, Elham Kolahchian presented our adaptive approach to MMRV for in-situ mineralisation at GHGT-17 in Calgary. We hope this contributes to the development of standards and regulations for mineralisation worldwide. Thank you to Elham's co-authors, Martin Jagger, Pedram Mahzari, Andre K Mol and Juerg Matter, and to IEAGHG for hosting the event. #CCS #CDR #mineralisation #GHGT17

MMRV | CCS | Subsurface Monitoring

Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting our ePoster in #GHGT17 in Calgary about our measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification (#MMRV ) framework for in-situ CO2 mineralisation. Having a robust MMRV plan plays a critical role in any safe and successful #CCS project, and at 44.01 we are working hard to develop and implement an adaptive program as we prepare to scale up our technology.
