🌟Introducing a new Town Centre Champion: Ellie Kirk and the Grimsby Town Foundation team are new members of the 2025 Group and have stepped up as town centre champions. Grimsby Town Foundation traces its roots back to 1986 when it was originally established as “Grimsby Town Football in the Community.” Its primary mission is to foster a strong connection between the football club and the local community, particularly by engaging with young people, using the strength of the club badge. The 2025 Group town centre champions pledge to share a positive narrative about all the great projects that are happening in the next few years with their work colleagues, family and friends. As a group we commit to finding solutions to any challenges within the town centre. It is great to have them onboard. If you would like to become a 2025 Group town centre champion, type “town centre champion” in the comments below and I will be in touch.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but "The Barge" is currently undergoing a makeover. Robinson’s Building Solutions a local company have been working hard to give it a refreshed look. I caught up with Jess and Grace last week, it’s been a challenging time for them while Riverhead Square has been under construction. However, the work is nearing completion, and they’re excited to see the square being used for events. They agree that it’s now a much better space. Their customers also have a much nicer view while enjoying a drink in the outdoor area. Next time you are in town why don’t you pay them a visit.

Revitalising Victoria Street: For a while, the old House of Fraser building on Victoria Street looked sad and unloved, with broken windows giving a negative impression of our main high street. But not anymore! We're pleased to announce that the broken windows have now been replaced, marking a significant step forward in revitalising Victoria Street. The rest of the Grimbarians vinyls will be added to the new windows, showcasing local pride and heritage and bringing life to the area. The 2025 Group working in partnership with NELC is committed to working towards giving all the empty shops on Victoria Street a makeover, creating a fresher, more inviting atmosphere for everyone who lives, works, and visits here. A well-kept high street not only looks good but also boosts local pride, encourages business, and creates a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. A huge thank you to McDonald's in the town centre for providing a morning coffee for the glazing team, it was much appreciated. I can't wait to see this project completed. More exciting improvements are on the way for Victoria Street in the coming months!

Meet Fran and Dianne, our wonderful volunteer litter pickers in Cleethorpes. They do a fantastic job keeping Cleethorpes litter-free. When I asked them why they do it, their answer was simple: because they “care” Yesterday, I had the pleasure of taking two different ladies on a future footsteps tour of the town centre. Both have participated in litter picking before in our town centre and are eager to do more. They're even looking to start their own litter picking team in the town centre. The 2025 Group is stepping in to organise a meeting with them to see how we can turn this idea into reality. It's easy to think that keeping our streets clean is solely the council’s responsibility, but as a community, it’s our responsibility too. A litter-free clean town benefits us all—it fosters pride in our community, increases high street footfall, and creates a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. When I'm in the town centre or in Cleethorpes, I make sure to put my litter in the bin and pick up any stray litter I come across. Can we come together as a community to create a place we can all be proud of? Big thanks to Fran and Dianne for all that they do in Cleethorpes. Thanks to Jennifer and Brenda for their support in the town centre and a big thank you to James Elliott for all his hard work, keeping our river clean.

Future Grimsby Footsteps Tours: Join us on a visionary tour of Grimsby's town centre, where we will showcase the future sites and plans for the regeneration projects that will transform our town centre. This walking tour will highlight upcoming developments like the mixed retail and leisure conversion at Freshney Place, the green space seating area of Riverhead Square, and the introduction of innovative spaces such as the NHS Diagnostic Centre and Horizon Youth Zone. Although visible changes are just beginning, with only Horizon Youth Zone, St James House and NHS Community Diagnostic Centre currently underway, this tour will provide a glimpse into the future, explaining how each project will contribute to turning our town centre into a thriving community hub. It's not just about retail anymore; it's about creating a town centre where the community can come together. Join us to see where and how these changes will unfold, making Grimsby a better place to live, work, and play. We will start at St James Hotel and enjoy a coffee and a chat before we head on the tour. We will commence the tour with the regeneration of St James House in St James Square and finish the tour at Projekt Renewable near the Fishing Heritage Centre.
