Financial literacy is an essential skill for personal and professional development. However, many girls in rural Uganda lack access to financial education and opportunities due to poverty, gender discrimination, social norms, and cultural barriers. As a result, they face challenges such as low self-esteem, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, and limited career prospects. Here is how Teach for Uganda in partnership with Credit Suisse is providing relevant and timely financial literacy skills to 6000 girls in 33 rural Ugandan public schools in Kayunga and Mayuge districts with coverage on topics like budgeting, saving, investing, entrepreneurship, and career planning. The project also incorporates life skills, such as self-confidence, leadership, communication, and decision-making through a participatory and learner-centered approach. About us
Vision: One day, all children in Uganda will attain an equitable quality education. Background: Uganda is home to over 45 million people and it is arguably the youngest nation in the world. 78% of the population is under 30 years old out of which 50% is under 15 years old. 17 million children are in Uganda's schools. 70% of them never finish primary school due to poor quality education and high rates of teacher absenteeism. Every 7 years, 12 million children fall through the cracks of our education system. 90% of all teachers have been found incompetent by the Uganda National Examination Board. The overwhelming failure rate has led to 80% of youth unemployment exacerbating the cycle of poverty. Mission: To nurture leaders who are committed to advancing equitable access to quality education in low-income communities. What We Do: We are a partner in the Global Education Network, Teach For All. We train socially conscious, outstanding graduates and professionals from Uganda, who are actively interested in the social welfare of underprivileged children and orphans in Uganda. We groom these graduates and professionals into transformational teachers and leaders, equipped with adaptive skills, to teach for two years in the poorest schools in Uganda. Fellowship: This includes an intense, six-week residential training for fellows before they start teaching. This is followed by ongoing training and support throughout the two years of the fellowship, delivered through conferences, training sessions, leadership forums, online resources, and on-the-ground mentoring by a Program Manager. In the second year of the program, each fellow undertakes an assignment: The Ubuntu Community Project (UCP) wherein the Fellows ideate, plan and execute a project that benefits their students/ the school or the society as a whole. The Game Changer: Post fellowship, our alumni will join a network of like-minded leaders committed to advancing equitable access to quality education.

It was a pleasure to judge the Teach For Uganda's School Clubs Climate Contest Grand Finale last week Friday 16th 2024 at Difrika Country Resort in Jinja City. I was amazed by the level of creativity and innovative ideas these young children displayed towards fighting climate change in their respective schools and communities. 🎉🎉🎉 What a Season of The Schools Climate Clubs Contest! 🎉🎉🎉 The first Ever Schools Climate Clubs Contest season One 2024 has a National Champion! Ndeeba C/U Primary School. An unimaginable sense of gratitude to Musiita Moslem that came second, Bulafa Islamic that claimed the third spot and the other remaining 80 outstandingly participating schools. With the highly exciting yet climate redemptive and informative contest themed "Unlocking Students' Agency to Climate action" having now a fully crowned national champion, we celebrate a 2 month journey that saw 83 schools Climate Clubs across three districts of Kayunga, Mayuge and Namutumba write a bold Climate Education and Leadership statement. From the Interschool, Zonal and district level, the national championship was a platinum seal for a shared learning cross fire amongst student led climate innovations, contextual projects, understanding of the climate themes of Food security, renewable energy, water management, biodiversity, waste management and climate change adaptation among others themes through quiz cross fire, solution inspired debate and showcase of their contextual climate action solutions in combatting the Climate crisis. More to celebrate is a group of the 16 Jury team selected from outstanding climate passionate and actionable fellows who have honed their Leadership, resilience and commitment to the climate cause through out the rigorous officiating of the competition.
