About us

Nile Breweries Limited was started in 1951 by a group of businessmen associated with the construction of Owen Falls Dam at the Source of River Nile in Uganda, most prominent the Madhvani family. In 2001 it was acquired by SABMiller plc. Today NBL is a proud part of the ABInBev family after the successful completion of the business combination with SABMiller plc in 2016. The company prides itself in 2 breweries, located in Jinja and Mbarara, plus 1 Malting plant located in Jinja. Nile Breweries brews 11 locally produced beer brands (Nile Special, Club Pilsner, Club Twist, Castle Lite, Castle Milk Stout, Nile Special Stout, Eagle Lager, Eagle Extra, Eagle Dark, Eagle Poa and Chairman's ESB.

    The 4th Edition of the Uganda Economic Forum was launched today at Next Media Park. Held under the theme "Unlocking Uganda's Economic Potential: Strategies for Sustainable Growth and Development," the forum is scheduled to run from September 16th to 20th. Nile Breweries will be a partner in this broadcast, supporting the discussions aimed at shaping the country's economy. Speaking at the launch, our MD Adu Rando called for collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to unlock Uganda's economic potential. "Can we be more efficient as a country in prioritizing areas that need to be developed in terms of infrastructure, to support the growth in the various sectors?" he implored. He also called for value addition, especially in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. "Through many years of agricultural investment, we've been able to triple barley production. We went from being an importer to an exporter of malt in 2023," he said. He concluded by hinting at Nile Breweries' plans to expand exports of its local beers as part of its growth strategies. The other partners for the forum include the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda Development Corporation, and Uganda Martyrs University. The #UgEconomicForum will be airing week-long on NBS Television, starting at 2 PM daily.

    We held a successful annual Sales Convention, a gathering of Sales & Marketing teams from across Uganda. The event provided a platform to discuss strategic objectives for 2024 and recognize the outstanding achievements of our sales force in the previous year. The convention culminated in a celebratory Gala Dinner, where we announced the winners of the H1 sales rankings and presented them with well-deserved awards. It was also an opportunity for our team to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other's company. The evening featured live entertainment, and refreshments, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated our accomplishments and strengthened our team spirit. With renewed enthusiasm and a shared vision, our teams emerged from the convention ready to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities that lay ahead. The event was a resounding success, solidifying the company's commitment to excellence and fostering a culture of achievement.     The Growing Retailers Innovatively Together (GRIT) program has successfully concluded its in-person training phase, expanding its reach to over 1,160 hotel, bar, and restaurant operators across Uganda, including a strong turnout in Eastern Uganda this week. The program, a joint initiative by Nile Breweries Ltd, MoMo from MTN UG, and Ability Explored, aims to empower local businesses by equipping them with essential skills for growth and sustainability. Workshops held in Mbale and Soroti focused on customer experience, record-keeping, stock management, financial literacy, and the importance of selling quality products. Our Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Njuki Emmanuel, emphasized the critical role of retailers in protecting consumers from harmful illicit alcohol. “Prioritizing customer safety by avoiding illicit alcohol is essential for long-term business success,” he said. "It's easier to retain a loyal customer than to acquire a new one." Simon Peter Lemukol, owner of Bokora Inn in Moroto, expressed gratitude for the training, highlighting its impact on his business. "The knowledge gained has been invaluable," he shared. "NBL's support, including coolers, table mats, and the user-friendly Bees app, has been instrumental in our growth." As we wrap up this phase of in-person training, we're excited to announce the next step: a digital rollout of our program.     We have launched our annual Smart drinking campaign, "Drink Easy Easy #NenkyaLunaku," aimed at promoting safe and responsible alcohol consumption. The campaign also addresses the pressing issue of illicit alcohol, which is causing significant harm to society. “We are renewing our commitment to responsible drinking,” said Njuki Emmanuel, our Head of Legal & Corporate Affairs. “As a responsible producer, we urge our consumers to practice moderation. Please do not drink and drive. Enjoy your beer responsibly; there's no need to rush. Importantly, pregnant women, individuals on medication, and underage persons should abstain from alcohol altogether.” Adu Rando, our Managing Director, shared the company's purpose: "We Dream Big to create a future with more Cheers. This is a future where alcohol is enjoyed responsibly. We are not interested in profits derived from harmful consumption. We are committed to supporting the government and society in fostering positive associations with beer. Remember, you don't have to finish your drink today; there's always tomorrow. #NenkyaLunaku." Popular musician Apass Bagonza, the official campaign ambassador, expressed his gratitude for being part of the initiative. "I want to thank NBL for involving me in this crucial campaign. It's essential to educate people about responsible drinking. Unfortunately, some sellers prioritize profit over consumer health, but NBL is taking a stand. This is a fantastic campaign, and I'm proud to be involved," he said before performing the official campaign jingle. The "N'enkya Lunaku" campaign will run throughout the year, with its message integrated into various brand activations and promotions. Smart drinking encompasses knowing when to drink, what to drink, how to drink, and when to stop.     Over the past two weeks, our sales team participated in our Ability Commercial Capability Development Academy, an enriching experience that equipped them with essential skills and knowledge to excel in the field. The team dived deep into the world of brewing, mastered the art of negotiation, cracked the customer code, and hit the ground running with field visits! From understanding the magic behind our beers to perfecting sales pitches, this training has equipped our sales force with the tools to conquer new heights.
