Here is one of our latest detailed articles highlighting how we engage youth and just like Kofi Annan once said, "Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society’s margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies." ChildFund International Dow Moses Otai Chege Ngugi Youth Day of Service.

Meet Rebecca, a teenage farmer from Dokolo district. In 2023, ChildFund, through the Women and Youth Economic Empowerment Project, trained her in general agriculture, horticulture, and was supported with 4 piglets, a hand pump, and planting seeds of cabbage, tomatoes, and eggplants. At only 18 years, she established a piggery farm, from which she was able to buy a bull. She also started a poultry project and is now able to support her family of 8 members with basic needs. Today, she saves Ug. Shs30,000 (8. 19 USD) per week in a local saving group. Her total savings amount to Ug. Shs1,560,000 (425.76 USD). She plans to use her savings to build a permanent house for her parents. This inspiring young woman, with a generous heart now intends to expand her enterprise and venture into goat and sheep rearing. To date, she still has access to extension services with support from Lango Child and Community Development Federation(LACCODEF), one of our Implementing Partners in the region. “Before the training, the situation was horrible. We hardly met the basic needs. I had to drop out of school in Primary 6 as a result. Today, I feel so lucky, and I am grateful to ChildFund, and LACCODEF for supporting me,” she said. There is no doubt that Rebecca has so much potential, and is an inspiration to many youth out there who are still struggling to make a decent living. #WomenAndYouthEmpowerment #EndPoverty

Globally, nearly 148.1 million children under 5 are affected by stunting, with 63million children being in Africa alone. Studies show that 5.7% of children in Sub-Saharan Africa under 5 are experiencing wasting, and the under-5 mortality rate being 73 deaths per 1000 live births in 2022. By the end of 2024, 4million children under 5 are expected to face hunger, with 730,000 projected to suffer from severe malnutrition, raising their vulnerability to other diseases, and increasing the risk of death. Without swift, and targeted action, the impact of hunger, and malnutrition will trap future generations in a cycle of hunger, and deprivation. There has been some progress following global efforts to end hunger, and malnutrition. However, recent setbacks due to conflict, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic have derailed these efforts, and placed millions of children at risk. Yesterday, we joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Food Day. In this year’s celebrations, Childfund, through its Health and Nutrition program is working together with the Joining Forces Alliance to ensure a reliable food security system that will break the cycle of child hunger, and malnutrition. On Wednesday last week, our team held a project start-up meeting for the Good Start in Education (GSiE) project at Parolinya base camp, Moyo district, Northern Uganda. Among the participants were the District Local Government Officials from Moyo, and Obongi districts, Early Childhood Development (ECD) specialists, and Education specialists, Project Officers, among others. This comes as a response to the significant barriers faced by refugees, and host community children including inadequate infrastructure, congestion in classrooms, limited resources, and insufficient trained teachers. The purpose of the meeting was to: -Introduce stakeholders to the GSiE project. -Discuss project goals, objectives, and expected outcomes. -Establish partnerships, and collaboration frameworks. -Identify potential challenges and develop mitigation strategies. -Define roles, and responsibilities among stakeholders. We shall continue to strive for inclusive education and ensure that children achieve their full potential. Our appreciation goes to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, ChildFund Alliance, among other partners for supporting this cause. #InclusiveEducation #Becauseweneedeachother Moses Otai Chege Ngugi

At ChildFund Uganda, there is no work without play! Yesterday in Lira, Lango sub-region, our team, in collaboration with the local Implementing Partners concluded the Sponsorship Reflection Meeting that started on Tuesday this week. It is remarkable to step out of closed doors and go into the open space to try something unique. The tasking engagement turned into moments of fun, and laughter as the participants took part in sack race, football, among other games. We shall continue to support the children, and our communities in the best way we can. Lango Child and Community Development Federation hosted us well for this amazing exercise! #Everychildmatters #Everysponsormatters #Sponsorachild #Becauseweneedeachother Moses Otai Chege Ngugi

Behind each number is a sponsor, and a child attached. Behind all this, there is a relationship! Today, we held the first session of the Annual Sponsorship Performance Reflection that is taking place from 1st October to 4th October 2024 in Lira district, Lango sub-region. Today's sponsorship reflection meeting was based on the theme, "Every child matters, every sponsor matters." The main purpose is to reflect on current practices in sponsorship, and programs on child and sponsor retention strategies to address any identified gaps. In attendance were the Programs Managers, Programs Officers, Sponsorship Managers, Sponsorship Officers, and other team players from Country Office, and the local Implementing Partners across the country. At the core of this exercise was reflection on the need to understand our sponsors, and aligning ourselves to that, the possibility of starting local sponsorships to boost the number of currently available sponsors, investing in publicity of our programs, the possibility of getting younger sponsors, defining a clear sponsorship brand, among others. We extend our gratitude to Lango Child and Community Development Federation kampala area federation of communities, busia area communities federation, ChildFund International ChildFund Alliance, Acholi Child and Family Program, Partners for Children Worldwide, Community Efforts for Child Empowerment, Masindi Child Development Federation, Mbale Area Federation of Communities, among others for the unfailing support.
