About us
Rex Advocates is a well -established premier law firm in Tanzania with a long-standing track record of successfully showcasing a wealth of experience and unrivalled knowledge of the legal and regulatory regime for doing business in the country on ground-breaking and business-critical mandates. Previously practised as Rex Attorneys, in 2015 some of the REX partners became part of ENSafrica, (www.ensafrica.com) a regional practice present in seven other African countries, in which the REX partners sought to leverage their ability to access the growing African transactional portfolio and regional infrastructure projects. Following the enactment of local content laws and regulations, which restrict practice in the natural resources sector to law firms fully owned by citizens without affiliation to foreign firms, REX partners had to re-organize again in August 2019. Even though the Firm was fully Tanzanian owned, the affiliation with the regional practice would render the Firm unqualified for local content purposes. Despite the changes, the REX team remains intact and as strong as has always been. Through offering a wide range of sector expertise, with high-calibre domestic and international clients in the oil and gas, telecoms, mining and banking sectors. The firm always challenge themselves to bring new and original ways of thinking to the complex legal challenges their clients face. With keen focus and smart efforts on exceeding clients’ expectations, the firm specialises in advising clients from a wide array of sectors comprising of corporates from commercial and industrial sectors, governments, regulators, and trade bodies. Rex Attorneys are committed to quality and providing value, whilst also priding themselves on quality control over all deliverables and team based way of working. This morning, EALS' President Justice (Retd.) Dr Fauz Twaib officially opened the Inaugural EALS-McGill Masterclass on International Space Law and Policy in Nairobi, marking a transformative step in East Africa's journey into space law. As the President highlighted, "We stand at a remarkable crossroads of law, technology, and the boundless potential of space". In partnership with the world-renowned McGill Institute of Air and Space Law, this masterclass reflects our region's growing influence in space technology—from Kenya’s recent satellite launch to Tanzania's strides in space exploration. Together, we are shaping a legal framework that fosters innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. Special thanks to our VP, Ramadhan Abubakar and VP of LSK, Mr. Mwaura Wakabata for their leadership, and to our facilitators Prof. Andrea Harrington and Mr. Arnold Agaba for guiding us on this incredible journey. As we delve into this dynamic field, let us remember the words of Dr. Mae Jemison: "Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations." Let’s embrace the possibilities and chart a future where law meets the infinite potential of space. David Sigano Gabriel Acaye achilleus rwelamira

I recently had the privilege of attending the 7th Annual Arbitration Conference at Protea Hotels by Marriott in Dar es Salaam, held on August 22-23, 2024. The conference was themed “Navigating Complexities: Resolving Construction and International Investment Disputes.” As a member of the Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb), I gained valuable insights from discussions on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the construction industry and international arbitration. One of the highlights for me was the Women in ADR Breakfast Dialogue, where we explored the “Challenges and Opportunities for Women in ADR.” Eng. Larissa Leach, Edith Twinamatsiko, MCIArb, and Bertha Mwarija were among the inspiring women who contributed to the discussion. During the dialogue, I highlighted common challenges women in ADR face, including gender stereotypes, cultural norms, institutional barriers, accessibility issues, and lack of awareness. I also shared resources, strategies, and opportunities to address these challenges, such as continuous learning, achieving work-life balance, and seeking career support. The conference opened with a keynote address by Judge Abdallah Halfani Ngozi from the High Court of Tanzania (Commercial Division) on Day One. On Day Two, Hon. Jumanne Sagini, the Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, delivered the keynote address. I want to express my gratitude and congratulations to the Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb) Secretariat, led by our Executive Secretary, Maria Mruma, and the Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb) Council under our President, Madam Madeline Kimei (MCIArb, FTIArb), for organizing this successful event and for their dedication to promoting arbitration in Tanzania.
