It's exciting times for Singapore's semiconductor industry, and we are thrilled to announce we are teaming up with Ngee Ann Polytechnic to enhance training for engineering talents interested in pursuing careers in the semiconductor field. Under the MOU signed today in a ceremony, UMC will bring industry perspective as a leading semiconductor foundry to course design for the microelectronics specialization of the Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Engineering. We will also look to collaborate on programs and courses for recent graduates as well as working professionals seeking upskilling and reskilling opportunities. UMC is currently expanding our Singapore operations with a new wafer fab, which is set to create a significant number of skilled engineering jobs over the next few years. In line with #SEMICONTaiwan’s theme this year “Breaking Limits: Powering the AI Era”, UMC was proud to share our latest technology solutions that are contributing to an AI-driven future. In the Heterogeneous Integration Global Summit, we discussed how we are bringing together partners to provide a near-memory computing solution that can help unlock the potential of #edgeAI. The IC Forum explored pioneering innovations shaping future technologies, and UMC presented our industry-first 3D IC for RFSOI solution to solve the challenges of rising RF complexity in the 5G + AI era. 💡What can be found on the roof of all UMC fabs? If you guessed #solar panels, then you are right! Since joining #RE100 in 2021, we have tripled our on-site solar capacity as we strive for 100% renewable energy by 2050. In Taiwan, our fab solar capacity is the highest in the foundry industry, and our overseas fabs are also accelerating installations. Together with third-party purchases, our renewable energy use in 2023 doubled from the previous year to 11.1% of total electricity consumption. We are on track to achieving our progressive targets of 25% renewable energy by 2025 and 50% by 2030. UMC recently hosted a delegation of officials from 16 countries as part of the Workshop on Semiconductor Development, organized by International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF). The workshop aims to share Taiwan’s successful experience in developing its #semiconductor sector with other countries interested in cultivating their own semiconductor industries, and we were happy to be able to share UMC’s journey from Taiwan’s first IC company to one of the world’s leading foundries today.

Ahead of Singapore National Day 🇸🇬 this Friday, UMC Singapore’s fab directors and colleagues volunteered as safety marshals👷♀️ at Pasir Ris Town’s carnival event the past weekend. Pasir Ris has been UMC’s Singapore base since we first established our fab in the Pasir Ris Wafer Fab Park more than 20 years ago, and we’re happy to have the opportunity to celebrate together with members of our community. Wishing Singapore a happy 59th birthday in advance!

This just in👉 UMC today reported Q2’24 financial results. Here are the highlights: ▶ Q2 gross margin came in at a better-than-expected 35.2% ▶ Revenue +4% and wafer shipment +2.6% QoQ ▶ Expect to see further end market improvement in Q3, particularly in communication and computing segments, driving higher wafer shipment and fab utilization ▶ Depreciation and utility costs to pose some margin pressure in the second half, which the company will work to offset through cost control and higher efficiency See more on our Q2 performance and Q3 outlook here: https://lnkd.in/gsU8zgNy
