TV show description:
A former lawyer, Ryan (Elijah Wood) is an introverted and troubled young man who’s struggling to make his way in the world. He’s suicidal but things change when his neighbor asks him to take care of her dog for the day. He ends up forming a unique friendship with the pooch, Wilfred (Jason Gann). While everyone else in the world sees Wilfred as just a four-legged canine, Ryan sees him as a crude and somewhat surly, yet irrepressibly brave and honest Australian guy in a cheap dog suit.
Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann) is Ryan’s beautiful neighbor and Wilfred’s owner. She’s got a boyfriend named Drew (Chris Klein) who lives in Wisconsin and he’s highly competitive.
Kristen (Dorian Brown) is Ryan’s uptight and bossy sister who’s also a gynecological nurse. Shoe’s got boss challenges of her own however, working under Doctor Arturo Ramos (Nestor Carbonell). Ryan and Kristen’s mom is Catherine (Mary Steenburgen) a free-spirit and frequently absent parent. When Catherine approaches Ryan for emotional support, he realizes that mother and son are much more alike than he imagined.
Spencer (Ethan Suplee) is Ryan’s boorish, motorcycle-riding neighbor who grows marijuana in his home. He wants to form a bond with Ryan, as if he didn’t have enough to worry about.
Episode #49 — Happiness
The four-legged Wilfred dies of his disease. Jenna goes back to Drew and they start raising a puppy together. Ryan discovers that the Flock of the Grey Shepherd was real and the head of the cult was his biological father. The talking-Wilfred is revealed to be a figment of Ryan’s imagination but he’s okay with that and the series ends with Ryan and his imaginary best friend talking at the ebach.
First aired: August 13, 2014.
