The networks love to create new TV shows that are based on movies from the past. Some do well in the ratings while others are quickly cancelled. How will CBS make out with their Training Day TV series? Will it be a hit or a flop? Will Training Day be cancelled or survive to be renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Picking up some 15 years after the movie, the Training Day TV show follows Detective Frank Rourke (Bill Paxon). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. When the LAPD brass notices Rourke’s penchant for operating in a gray area to fight crime, they assign heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee to spy on him and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/21 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Training Day TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for second season?
5/17/17 update: CBS has cancelled their Training Day after once season. Details here.
I hope the show continues , love Bill Paxton and a good replacement would be Christian Slater, he would be able for sure.
I have watched all episodes and was a childhood friend of Bill so had to watch but that set aside, I have really enjoyed the show. Good stories, shows a side of LA no one sees and acting is very good. Only show I like on Saturdays besides 48 hrs. Show has not been promoted at all and now it on Saturday I think it has done well giving the facts. Justin who plays Kyle is very good, as are the other detectives as well as Hollie. Reminds me a bit of the old Nash Bridges show but better.
I don’t see it coming back. These ratings are awful.
I love the show tge stories are great and alot of action and drama I think the show should b renewed for a second season. Michael chicklis would b a great choice to take bill paxtons place
Love the show and think it should be renewed. Curious as to who will replace Bill Paxton.
Keep the show moving. Great story lines. Bill Paxton may not be replaceable but please give it shot. 3.25 million viewers is not chump change on Saturday night.
Renew. One of two shows we added to our lineup this year. Great show. Bill Paxton cannot be replaced but an effort to save the show may be worth it.
Obviously Bill Paxton’s character will be missed, but the show has strong content and acting. I’d like to see it continue.
RENEW this show!! The series has substance and is well worth watching. My heartfelt condolences to the Paxton family , cast and crew. He will truly be missed 🙁
i hope it gets renewed
I love this show I think timothy olyphant would make a good replacement I will miss bill Paxton he was great
So sorry that Bill Paxton past away. He was perfect for this character. Timothy Olyphant, from Justified, would be great as Frank Rourke. He sounds like Bill Paxton. PLEASE renew Training Day!!!!
I love the show. It’s very entertaining. Bill Paxton does an extraordinary job . Not sure if there is anyone capable of replacing him. He was one of a kind.
