TV show description:
A scripted comedy series, Nobodies stars creators, writers, and alumni of The Groundlings improv company, Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf, and Rachel Ramras as fictionalized versions of themselves. Tired of writing for an animated children’s TV series, The Fartlings, Hugh, Larry, and Rachel are pitching their feature film, Mr. First Lady, to Paramount.
Although they get a meeting with Gavin and Grace (Ally and Newsome), their pitch falls flat, until Rachel lies that their friend Melissa McCarthy is eager to play the female lead. While they are old friends with McCarthy as well as her husband, Ben Falcone, Melissa hasn’t even replied to their texts on the subject.
Finally, Rachel hears from McCarthy, who is filming on location and suggests they contact Ben. Armed with their script, Rachel pays him a visit, only to hear him complain about how people are always trying to talk him into producing their scripts and sometimes even pressure him to convince Melissa to board their projects.
Following Rachel’s failure to broach the subject, Hugh and Larry learn that Jason Bateman plays a weekly pickup basketball game. They show up to pitch to him, hoping that if he signs on, it will be easier to woo Melissa. In the course of the game, Larry gets super aggressive in a most off-putting way. Eventually he blows out Bateman’s knee, which delays the actor’s other Paramount project.
As the story progresses, while the trio tries to attract other talent including Allison Janney and Kristen Bell, they are just as likely to offend them. And of course they have to win back McCarthy and Falcone, once they learn the gang lied about Melissa’s involvement.
Will Hugh, Larry, and Rachel ever get to make their movie? How long will they be stuck writing a fart-joke TV show? Will they forever be attending The Annie Awards, while their friends are racking up Emmy awards and Oscars? Stay tuned.
Series Finale:
Episode #24 (2.12): “Meeting Steven Spielberg”
With just hours to prepare for a meeting with Steven Spielberg, Larry must convince Rachel that it’s for real and get Hugh to return from a mysterious trip to Phoenix.
First aired: May 31, 2018
What do you think? Do you like the Nobodies TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
I love this show. So disappointed it’s been cancelled. I didn’t think Melissa McCarthy’s role was very funny, but love the relationship between the writers, especially the unspoken love between Hugh and Rachel.
I love this show . hope it gets one more season !
This should be cancelled. It’s hard to believe Groundlings are responsible for such an awful unfunny show.
I LOVE this show! I hope it stays on a long, long time.
jeff i like this show its about ” the hustle” and good old americana narcassism
Love Melissa, don’t like the show. Won’t be watching.
Just found this last night. Kept me up most of the night — hilarious. If you liked Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc., you’ll enjoy this.
Not too crazy about this program. It isn’t funny, and it’s just has no entertainment value. Too bad, because I would have expected more from Melissa McCarthy.
this show is just not funny at all ! I tried by watching all of them, hopping it would get better .not so much. sorry Melissa and all the rest of you. it’s not funny at all. sorry
