If you’re looking for a hit new series to come out of the fall season, you don’t have to look any further than FOX’s New Girl sitcom. The Zooey Deschanel TV series has been building on its Glee lead-in, winning its timeslot, and has been averaging a 4.7 in the all-important 18-49 demographic with 9.78 million viewers.
New Girl is FOX’s highest-rated series right now so it’s no surprise that the network is giving it a full season order of 24 episodes. Here’s the press release:
FOX MOVES IN WITH “New Girl” FOR A FULL-SEASON PICKUP
FOX has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the hit comedy New Girl, bringing the series to a 24-episode season order, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
“We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline,” said Reilly. “It’s great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we’re confident that even more people will embrace the show – and more comedy on FOX – this season.”
New Girl premiered as FOX’s highest-rated fall sitcom debut in 10 years. Since it launched, the single-camera comedy has quickly established itself as Tuesday’s No. 1 series among Adults 18-49 and this season’s No. 1 new series among Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Teens.
In next week’s all-new episode, “Wedding,” airing Tuesday, Oct. 4 (9:01-9:31 PM ET/PT), the guys are invited to a wedding of a mutual friend. NICK (Jake Johnson), fearful he will run into his ex-girlfriend Caroline (guest star Mary Elizabeth Ellis), asks JESS (Deschanel) to be his date. Meanwhile, WINSTON (Lamorne Morris) takes his role as an usher very seriously and gets competitive on the dance floor with a young guest. SCHMIDT (Max Greenfield) not only catches the eye of a beautiful woman (guest star Katie Cassidy), but also his “frenemy” Gretchen (guest star Natasha Lyonne) whom he hooks up with at every wedding reception.
The next two all-new episodes of New Girl air at special times. In “Cece Crashes,” airing on a special night on Wednesday, Oct. 12 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), CECE (Hannah Simone) convinces Jess that Nick likes her more than just as a roommate and Schmidt tries to seal the deal with Cece. In “Naked,” airing at a special time at 9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Jess accidentally walks in on a naked Nick, sending his self-confidence to an all-time low – just after an attractive co-worker (guest star Lake Bell) agrees to go out on a date with him.
Among other upcoming guest stars on New Girl is Justin Long (“Live Free & Die Hard,” “Going The Distance”), playing the role of a music teacher who catches the eye of Jess.
Created and written by Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”), New Girl follows a young woman (Deschanel) who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys she doesn’t know, changing all of their lives in unexpected ways.
New Girl is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Meriwether, Jake Kasdan, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Dave Finkel and Brett Baer are executive producers. Kasdan directed the debut and will continue to direct episodes of the series.
What do you think? Are you watching New Girl Glad to hear that it’s gotten a full season?

This used to be entertaining but, of course you had to bring in the sex scenes. I was cute at first.
I don’t think it was that funny, did not like the singing much either. I guess they think that every show has to have singing for people to like it. Must not be my cup of tea.
I tried two episodes, but won’t be back for a third week of torture. I couldn’t spend five minutes with anyone that freakin’ annoying. And the singing?! Gah! I don’t believe those guys (don’t ask me their names, I don’t know or care) would be able to spend five minutes with her either. I generally like Zooey, but I’ll take a pass on this one.
I want to like this show but so far the first two episodes just haven’t been that amusing to me. Hopefully it improves
Couldn’t even get through the first 5 min. Even the commercials aren’t funny — I guess people like that toilet huomor =
Happy Birthday Girl, here. I just find Zooey Deschanel so very watchable. I find myself smiling inexplicably, which if you knew me, you would know is rare.
I guess Jeremy doesn’t like New Girl, but it isn’t a surprise that other viewers are enjoying the show. Anything that can attract a currently successful movie actress to TV is probably going to do well.
They’ve canceled good sitcom after good sitcom. I watch the pilot on Itunes and don’t laugh once. They order a full season of this and cancel Til death, the war at home and a few other I could name? What the F**k is wrong with this network?
Jeremy Rynek » It’s brought in the best ratings of the season for them. It’s a business. Personal tastes have nothing to do with the equation. The others you mentioned didn’t come close to these ratings and Til Death went on for years with terrible ratings thanks to a syndication deal.
Hey fox F**K YOU
