TV show description:
This gritty science-fiction drama takes place on the planet Caprica in the Battlestar Galactica universe, 58 years before the events of that TV show.
Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) is regarded as a brilliant computer engineer. It’s made him very successful and one of the richest guys on the planet. He invented the holoband, a tool that’s used to access and participate in a virtual reality world. After his daughter Zoe dies, he becomes obsessed with finding a way to bring her back. Daniel’s wife, Amanda (Paula Malcomson), is just as successful as a surgeon. After their teenage daughter dies, she sets out to discover the truth about what really happened.
Zoe (Alessandra Torresani) was very intelligent and took after both her parents, but it was her genius with computer programming that was most reminiscent of her dad. With her friend Lacy Rand and boyfriend Ben Stark, Zoe hung out at at a virtual reality club where teenagers could act out their fantasies without actually doing anything. The two girls think that they’re heading out on a train trip, but Ben had other plans. He bombed the train in a terrorist act, killing himself and Zoe. Lacy survived.
Lacy (Magda Apanowicz), as the lone survivor, is the only one that knows that the three used to travel with the holoband that Zoe’s father created. She finds reasons to get into Zoe’s old bedroom, and uses the holoband to revisit the club to visit with Zoe’s virtual self. Before she died, Zoe had created a way to stay inside the virtual reality world, something that even her father didn’t know about. Her other way to connect to Zoe is by talking with the headmistress at the Academy, Clarice Willow (Polly Walker), as she also secretly had a role in the bombing.
Like Daniel, Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), also lost a daughter in the train bombing, as well as his wife. This causes the two men to bond. Joseph is originally from Tauron, but changed his name to the less racial Adams and moved to Caprica. He became known for his connections to the organized crime underworld that financed his way through school, yet eventually became an influential defense attorney. He and Daniel eventually lead into a collaboration. Joseph’s brother, Sam (Sasha Roiz), has taken a different path. As the enforcer to the criminal organization on Tauron, he hasn’t forgotten his roots.
